A question about : MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Switch Online (now beaten)

MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Switch Online (provided by Eon)

The above tariff was done through cheap energy club. Switched in December 2014. Exit fees for dual fuel = Ј10.00.

Received an email today from the club that it could be beaten. Looking through the comparison, Eon have an even cheaper tariff!

Eon Fixed 1 Year v15 Online.

Logged into my account and I can switch as Eon have quoted me the same tariff. Question:

- Is if worth it?
- Would Eon be willing to waive the fee? I'm only just over a month into the MSE Fix.
- Should I switch today or switch in 2nd April (the latest date available)?

Best answers:

  • There is no exit fee for moving tariffs within E.ON, so the exit fee doesn't apply as the terms state "...if you leave E.ON before your contract end date."
It is up to you to decide if and when to switch, check the unit price and standing charge on your current tariff and this new one to see which one is best for you, and as for the date it would entirely be up to you to decide when the best date to switch is.
  • Morning deutsch and thank you lvf,
You can switch between E.ON tariffs without being charged the exit fee, this will only be charged if you change supplier before your plan ends.
Just to let you know though, it does say on the website, E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v15
Discounted tariff, only available to sign up to until 10 February 2015.
    Hope this is of interest.

  • Out-of-interest, can you explain how E.oN's commitment to 17 day switching can then result in an up to a 32 day delay to the setting up of the online account (whilst awaiting details from the old supplier) even through one part of my dual fuel account switched on the 6th February. This, in turn, according to your post above, effectively bars me from taking up the v15 offer or switching to another supplier?
I am sure that the information that you provide will be of interest to other MSErs considering a switch to E.oN. Had I known the above, I confess that I wouldn't have bothered.
  • Morning Hengus,
What tariff did you change to us on? What date did you initiate the switch?
We'd really need to see the account to see the reason why one of the fuels hasn't changed over to us yet, this would determine what changes if any we could make.
You should be able to register online though, what's the error message you're getting with this? Have you spoken to the online guys? as this is a separate issue.
You can also change supplier whenever you like, I would advise you to let the accounts be fully live first and you would be charged the cancellation fee if your chosen tariff has one.
Let me know if I can help you.

  • I've just put the figures for v15 into my spreadsheet and it would actually be ~ Ј15 more for me -gas slightly cheaper but leccy more expensive.
  • Thanks Helena for letting me know about the deadline to sign up to the discount. Just switched!
  • Hello Helena,
I made the switch to the EON MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Switch Online on October, 16th 2014. Why have I still not received any cashback?
  • The cashback comes from Cheap Energy Club once they've been told by the supplier that the switch has been completed. You should email energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com with your full name, the email address you used to join Cheap Energy Club and your postcode and they'll investigate.
