A question about : Moving to Scotland for 6 months

Hey all!
I'm moving to Scotland for about 6 months to work in Grangemouth. I'd like to live in a town/city within 30 minutes from Grangemouth. I've been looking at Falkirk, Stirling, Livington and Linlithgow. My preferences are; central for train and/or bus, close to good pubs and restaurantes, decent shopping, fitness center and probably most important of all, live music venues (small ones are OK). title=Smile

Can anyone help me out? Other suggestions also appreciated. title=Smile

Thanks!

Best answers:

  • There are a couple of previous threads on here for people moving to the Falkirk/Linlithgow area it's you search, sorry I can't paste.
  • Can anyone tell. Me if I can get 1p bargains in tesco I'm new to this
  • I don't think any of the towns you've mentioned will met all your requirements but I think Linlithgow would probably be your best bet. It would give you an easy commute to Grangemouth (assuming you have a car) and there are some reasonable pubs and restaurants.
However, it main thing is that it has a good train service to Edinburgh - journey time just over 20 minutes and at least three trains an hour and more at peak times.
If you want live music venues Edinburgh will give you a great choice particularly if you will be here during August for the Edinburgh festival. There are extra late trains throughout the month.
The choice of gyms isn't great in the area but the Inchyra Grange Hotel gym isn't bad and very handy for Grangemouth.
The other option would be to find somewhere to stay in Edinburgh which would definitely meet all your requirements and drive out to Grangemouth each day. If you stayed on the west side of the city your commute wouldn't be much over the 30 minutes as you would be going against the traffic.
  • I would recommend looking for something like this:
    https://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare...emouth/1375438
That way you would be close to work, have some company in the house, and have relatively cheap digs but the convenience of being in a full sized house.
  • Have u moved yet if so any of the rest but not livingston ,they all have good points to be honest i would live in grangemouth there are many people who rent a room to contractors and so you would have more money left for nights out ect
  • Have a look at Cumbernauld, handy for Croy trains, buses and motorway connections, a decent small music venue in the village, not far from Glasgow for decent pubs and the restaurants are improving all the time, you'll also have money left out of your budget too.
  • When thinking about where to live remember that there are no rail links to grangemouth so you would have to drive, otherwise it would be train then bus. You would be better to live in Falkirk/grangemouth and there are plenty of rail links, shops, bars and gyms in the area.
Gym wise I'd recommend O'Connor fitness which is in grangemouth, gym, classes, great place.
Though looking at the date this was started I've likely moved by now
