A question about : Motorway service area PCN Scotland

Just received a Parking Eye PCN, complete with photographs of my car arriving and departing a motorway service area but spending 30 minutes too long within the area. I wasn't the driver but received the PCN as registered keeper.
I have read the stickies, and advice not to contact the parking company in any way in Scotland, but wondered if that advice did apply to service areas also or do different laws apply to motorway system.
Seems to be the usual letter, charge of Ј100 but reduced to Ј60 if paid within 14 days.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • Nope - still the same advice. No keeper liability in Scotland, so keeper ignores (but files away) anything received regarding any such incident.
  • In Scotland they can only form a contract with the driver. So if they don't know who the driver is.........
  • Ignore, ignore, ignore. Then when you've finished ignoring, ignore some more
They can only pursue the driver in Scotland, and no-one is about to tell them who that was, are they?!
  • Thanks for the prompt replies. To be honest ,because the "unknown" driver was in the wrong , if the charge had been a bit more reasonable I would have paid.
I've read a few of the other posts on this section and Parking Eye seem a bit more aggressive in their approach than other companies, would that be a fair assumption? Does their method of future actions differ from other companies, or do they all go along same route ie a letter a month with increasingly dire threats before hopefully giving up?
  • The only reasonable charge is the unpaid parking fee of approximately Ј10-Ј15. However, this is payable to the Motorway service operator, not ParkingEye.
(Maybe the Scottish government could abolish all parking charges at Motorway services in Scotland, just as they have done with bridge tolls.)
