A question about : Mobile phone upgrade on a DMP?

Hi,

I have been on a monthly contract with O2 for a number of years. Now I'm due an upgrade and have selected the phone I would like, however, O2 now split their monthly repayment plan into two:
Airtime Plan is the tariff you choose. Device Plan is the monthly cost of the phone, through an interest-free loan on a Consumer Credit Agreement.

My concern is that I have a Debt Management Plan which affect my credit score. Could I be turned down for an upgrade because of my DMP?

Best answers:

  • I'm on a DMP too. You shouldn't be signing any new credit agreements. It will probably invalidate any arrangement you have.
  • If you're on a DMP then you shouldn't be considering upgrading your mobile.
If your lenders see you're actively seeking new lines of credit then they'd (likely) renege on any agreements you've come to in reducing monthly payments until the debt(s) is/are cleared.
As Grumbler rightly says, switch to a SIMO/PAYG plan.
