A question about : The Milton Keynes Money Savers Thread

Hi all :-)

This was so popular! I didn't realise that so many people on this board lived in MK, just think.. we've probably walked past each other in the Centre:MK eons of times!

Anyway, new thread - please use this one instead, I've requested that our original thread be locked (it was getting too long!)

Cheers

They were talking on the local radio a few weeks ago about low-cost wedding dresses being available on eBay. Not all are used. Some are new, possibly from cancelled weddings, unfulfilled orders and the like.
  • Traciemk
Debenhams have a lovely range of dresses.
  • Hi Tracie,
I'm in MK and arranging my wedding for early May - I can highly recommend a friend of mine who is making my bouquet, buttonholes, table decorations etc - she does it part time as she works full-time, and she's extremely talented!! (Which is very lucky for me!!!) She's done several weddings, some quite large, and I could PM you her details if you would like? Not trying to force you to use her, but hope the recommendation may help!
I can also highly recommend the Debenhams dresses - there is a section on the very lowest floor for evening wear, and they have some lovely wedding dresses there (the actual bridalwear section is on an upper floor). Don't forget you can get 10% off if you open an account!
    Hope some of this helps,
    Allie
    xx
  • No, but I bet she'd have a suggestion for somewhere to get them from (she's very helpful!) - I'll ask her!
  • Does anyone know of a good and reasonably priced plumber in the Milton Keynes area?
  • Further to a mention of Arcana trainee discount haircuts, as indicated on the earlier version of this Milton-Keynes board, I am pleased to report to you my findings (all based on my humble opinion, of course) from my haircut excursion on the weekend:
I never before endeavored to have a haircut by a trainee, and was a bit nervous at first. But in the end was very pleased with the effort and the results.
Overall I would give the whole experience (and the haircut) a score of 8.5 out of 10. I probably would not opt for a trainee haircut if I was being asked to replace Martin on the telly on the same evening (but maybe I would if the appearance was on radio only) or if I was scheduled to pose with Simma for a new Avatar ; but for generally routine times it would be perfectly fine.
    Advantages:
    - Cheap price: 5 quid for a bloke's haircut of your choice
    - Surprisingly posh ambiance, for an MK salon
    - Very, very pleasant and good-looking employees (especially one that bears a stark resemblance to Davina Mcall, but is even prettier)! Cheerful atmosphere indeed, and plenty of eye candy (speaking as a polite gentleman, but of course).
    - They hang your coat up for you in the back and make you feel like a gentleman, even though you're only going to pay them a fiver.
    - Plenty of parking
    - Easy to arrange a suitable appointment time
    - Trainee is constantly supervised by very experienced professionals who undertake to guide, instruct, intervene... and correct as necessary
    Cautions:
    - Can take a long time. My basic clipper cut took just over a full hour to complete.
    - The trainees can be VERY new to the field (but this makes it all the more interesting... and potentially creative; and, they ARE closely supervised).
    - When you walk right out of the salon, it might not feel exactly like the pro haircuts to which you are accustomed ; but after a day or two at most it looks perfectly fine. It's that close to perfection.
    - Don't be alarmed if the trainee gets instructions and then replies to the effect of: "but how do I do that?" or "what?!"
    For a fiver, definately recommended!

  • Glad you had a good experience too. I found them really great there.
  • Tesco Kingston are - if my eyes are not mistaken this evening - selling a Technika DVD player for Ј17.97 What a bargain, if you haven't already got a DVD player, or need a cheapy for the kids' bedroom etc...!!
In the first aisle on the left of the travelator just past the 97p CDs & DVDs, etc...
