A question about : Meet Barney & Scampi

I recently lost my beloved cat Scampi & had a lot of support from posters here & after taking in a rescue cat that the vet had, a couple of posters asked to see some pics of Barney. Original thread started by me here.

I've now sorted out a couple of pics of both Barney & my beloved Scampi & the link to them is here https://www.flickr.com/photos/131008851@N07/

Barney is the cat on the left & Scampi is the one on the fence, going out to survey his territory.

I still miss my Scampi boy desperately & shed many tears over his loss daily. Today I went to collect his ashes & hopefully having him back home with me will be a comfort to me.

Scampi was very special to me as he originally belonged to my son, (who was my only child & who tragically died suddenly aged 21.) Scampi, then aged about 8 months old, came to live with me & truly gave me a reason to carry on after such a devastating loss. No cat could ever mean as much to me as Scampi & I've decided I'm going to start a memory book, where I can write down some of the especially fond or funny memories I have of him during the 18 years we lived together.

  • They are both beautiful.
It is hard losing a cat that you love so much. I lost my cat 2.5 years ago and sometimes I still have a cry because I miss him so much. But Barney will give you lots of love and he will need lots back.
I am sorry about your son too, I couldn't imagine the loss you went through I hope you and Barney have a wonderful life together
  • What cuties
I love the look of concentration on Scampy's face as he braves that fence.
How is Barney settling in? he's got quite a mischievous twinkle in his eyes!
  • what beautiful cats. Scampi had the most amazing markings! and Barney looks so cute. my cat thanks you for naming Barney after HIM!
  • Dear Cattie
Thank you for the photos and for giving Barney a loving home.
We too lost a son, twenty years ago this year. It was a week after his twentieth birthday. You don't expect to be attending your child's funeral and it is something that you never fully get over, so my thoughts are with you.
I do hope that Barney is settling in well with you and giving you some comfort. I am sure that Scampi is watching over you.
Lots of love and take care.
  • No cat can take the place of another, I've had many cats over the years, but Barney will find a special place in your heart.
    Hmmm.
Looking at his photo....he's certainly got a twinkle in his eye.
I think he might turn out to be a bit of a character.
I still - even though it's almost 3 years since we lost our old boy - have a bit of a wobble at odd times and really miss him.
  • Aww, they are both lovely.
took us 11 years to get another cat after losing the first, as she was such a character, but this one is turning into one too - only completely different, so that's nice
hope you have many a happy year with Barney
  • I know that when I lost my first dog (we'd had family dogs before, but not one of my own) I was blown away by the level of grief I felt. I'd only got her by accident - I'd not been wanting a dog, but ended up with her when a friends neighbour abandoned her, and she was a lovely little thing.
My second dog was a rescue (the dog in my avatar piccy), and I very sadly had to have her put to sleep in September - her back legs had gone, and I kept her going as long as I could, wheelbarrow-walking her up the garden several times a day for a pee and to sit in the sun, and even making her a cart, but eventually she couldn't empty her bowels when she needed to, and taking her to the vets to be put to sleep was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
For several years it had been just me and her, and I was truly heartbroken. However, a week or so later I ended up with another dog, (she's actually a family members dog on 'long term loan' as she was one of 2 dogs that were getting a bit boisterous together!) - she's very different, but she fills the dog shaped gap in my life!
Barney will never replace Scampi, but he will no doubt become as different but valued companion, enjoy him, he's landed on his feet I think!
