A question about : May 2015 Weddings

Well thought I'd start a thread to see if there were any other brides or grooms getting married next May. My big day is 30th May 2015.
It's only 9 months away so creeping up on us fast.
I think I'm pretty organised, at least that's what everyone keeps telling me and last major things to organise are groom's and groomsmen's suits, invites, wedding rings and honeymoon.
Recently paid the deposit on the flowers and was pleased that the florist came under budget. title=Thanks, Even though I'm having orchids in my bouquet and the top table decoration so was scared what the quote would be.

All the card and paper is ordered for making my invites in the next couple of weeks, though unsure if beginning of October is too early to send them out for next May however, we haven't done save the dates.

Biggest news was that I tried on my dress at the weekend (as it had arrived early) Was very scared since I found and ordered it back in April. But it fits (with a few minor adjustments) and still absolutely love it and feel incredible in it title=Big.

Let me know how you're getting on everyone.
We can keep each other from getting stressed although I feel very calm and it's still all surreal at times title=ROTFL

  • Date twins!! Apart from you are freaking me out with how much you have organised now as we've only just booked our wedding. I know its not much time!
First thing which i am in the middle of doing is looking for a photogrpaher as a lot are already booked with it being so late. Have sent my save the dates out this week.
  • Hey Staple28
    Date twins yey
I did originally want the bank holiday before, but wasn't allowed it due to fact football might have been on that date lol Oh is a huge Liverpool supporter.
Don't worry about the time you've still got 9 months and I'm amazed at what I've managed so far in 9 months. You have you're venue which is the main thing.
Tell me more about your plans and if you're anywhere around berkshire or buckinghamshire I may be able to help with supplier suggestions.
Have you started looking at dresses yet? I was amazed at how much choice there was but managed to narrow the styles down pretty quick when started trying them on.
I'm hoping I can persuade a few girly friends to come help me next weekend with making invites, I'm sure prosecco, wine and pizza will work
Found the process of organising everything pretty straightforward so far though OH thinks that my spreadsheets are turning into a monster lol
  • I'm getting married in May next year too. My OH proposed a week ago and we booked the wedding yesterday for the 24th. So much to organise feel a little overwhelmed!!
  • I'm 9th May
I think I'm pretty organised aswell, still need to get a DJ and order the stuff to make the invitations (have designed them already)
Going up to the venue again this weekend to talk to the wedding planner, then on to the bridal shop to try on my dress which has arrived, plus order the bridesmaids dresses.
The wine is sitting in our spare room, just waiting for an offer on the prosecco we want!
  • Hey Hippychick1 and ceh209 more May weddings yey!
Your getting married on Bank Holiday Sunday then HippyChick, did you find that cheaper than a Saturday wedding?
I found PDA Card and craft quite good prices for card etc when I ordered to make my own invites then bought stickers and fancy bits from HobbyCraft. Going to get covered in glue and paper etc this weekend making them hehe.
Luckily realised before printing all the invite inserts and details that I'd neglected to put RSVP address anywhere that would've been a howler!
Most exciting news this week was on Monday as me and OH had a day off we went and booked our honeymoon!! So excited I want to go now (even though have another holiday in 4 weeks first).
Las Vegas for 4 nights then Mexico for 10 nights. Most expensive holiday I've ever been on but it came under what had budgetted for it so all good.
Keep thinking I've forgotten something obvious! But as Santa does I've made a list and keep checking it twice... then 3 times then 4 times!
  • Hi everyone!
I know the next thing i need to sort it my dress but i went to a wedding show at the weekend all the stall holders were freaking me out saying its getting too late! So thats next on my list but its so hard fitting in tme to dress shop between every day normal life.
We're ona bit of a budget so i am looking on ebay for centre pieces and favour ideas.
Whats everyone doig for hen doos??
    xx
  • Hi all
Yes getting married on a Sunday is cheaper at our venue. Ј20 a head for three courses plus wine plus wedding cake plus a room for us on the wedding night. We just want to get married so booked somewhere fairly cheap so we could do it quickly! Family wouldn't forgive us if we just disappeared and got married.
Went to a wedding fair this week and like you staple was panicked about dresses!! Going to try and see if I can go looking soon. So far we have booked the registrar and the venue. Think I need to get a move on!!
  • I'm a May 2015 bride too, 3rd May for me
So far I've booked venue, registrar, band and photographer. Going dress shopping on 5th October, if i dont find anything there i might panic a bit!!
The hotel we're using does all the catering etc so theres not much for me to organise really. OH kilts are getting hired so order is being put in next week. Other than that I don't think im in a rush for much else!
  • Our wedding is in Mai 2015 too Did you already send your save the date cards?? I am just thinking about and I am searching a print shop. Do you know this or can you suggest some? Thank you very much for your help.
  • Another date twin here, 30th May 2015 for us too.
We still have a few little bits to sort but not much.
We need to sort rings, i need to have mine made as my engagement ring is an odd shape so thats a big thing still to do.
So far we have booked/bought, Venue, Photographer, Cake, Decor, Brides dress, Bridesmaid Dresses, Band, Church, Hair, shoes, some jewellery, Save the Dates, Honeymoon and Hen do. We still need to sort ; Rings, flowers (had consultation but not put deposit down yet), Make-up, suits, invites (have someone making them but they arent done yet),
    Kirsty
  • 2nd May 2015 here!! Only decided upon this last week so WAY BEHIND on all the planning. Church and reception venue (including caterers) the only things booked so far. Dress appointment booked for Saturday and confirmation that venue's recommended florist is available on our day. Must get the dress bought and organise guestlist and save the dates!
  • 8 months and counting eeeek Where has the time gone. Ok time to breathe hehe
Wow there's quite a few of us now so I'll try and edit my first post to put in people's names and their dates.
We'll see if we can spot anymore date twins, triplets etc
Girls yet to get dresses don't panic!
I found mine in the 1st shop I went to, just have a look at magazines and online for styles you like or more importantly things you really don't like, but still keep and open mind!
Mine was nothing like I thought and all the nice lacey sleeved styles I thought I would like looked awful on me.
So things I've accomplished since last time
    Invites sent
    Wedding website now live
Collecting RSVP's and menu choices on another website
Hairstyle ideas and hair piece ideas sourced from National Wedding Show (now I just need to decide)
    Wishing everyone good organisation vibes
(unless you have a wedding planner hehe)
  • 2nd May for me! :-D I had a bit of a wobble yesterday that there's still so much to do buy I suppose we've done quite a bit.
Sorted so far: venue (inc drinks), caterers (choosing menu 8th Nov), band, honeymoon, suits, bride's dress, Save The Dates (to be sent this week), wedding rings, gift list, invitations, registrar
Still to sort: bridesmaids dresses, hair, make-up, jewellery, flowers, first-dance song (!), on-site accommodation (major faff - avoid if pos!!!), HenDo
Going to the Bluewater wedding fair next week with maids to get inspiration for dresses, hair etc so hopefully will be able to tick them off the list. :-)
To anyone that's still got to get a dress - don't panic! I tried dresses on in a salon, was massively indecisive so left without ordering the one we really liked. Googled the design 3 days later and found it on PreLoved for 1/3 cost 20mins drive from MiL2B so she went & picked it up for me! I'm picking it up from her next week and then getting altered to fit. There are also a few bridal outlets across the country where you can take dresses away on the day (this is my back-up plan!)
My maids are organising my Hen Do, we've come up with some ideas but I don't get to know exactly what's happening!!
  • I got my dress from the outlet and i love it
  • Yes thanks for all the dont worry abotu the dress posts, i visted a outlet last weekend and got the one!! Perfect fi too. Found some shoes on next that were 35Ј but when they went in my basket went down to 16Ј so happy with that. Did you get your dress dundeediva?
Hope i can keep just doing little bits at a time like that.
Have you all bought suits or hiring them? Does teh brides father normally wear the same suit too or just h2b and ushers and best man?
    Thanks girls
  • Hi there,
    Can I join too?? I am another 30th May 2015 girl....looks like it's a popular date!
I am feeling pretty organised but am doing a lot of decorations and stationary DIY so thinking I need to get cracking on all that soon! First stop is I need to finish my DIY invitations...all my family live a long way away and are already asking about booking accommodation so feel I need to get these out (originally I wasn't going to until January as I've already sent save the dates!)
At the moment I'm just feeling like every time I look at the budget it's gone up a bit!! Why is everything so expensive!! I'm really trying to keep it in check as were trying to clear our debt at the same time, but I'm finding it really hard!!
The next things on my do to list are finish the invites, I also need to go back to the dress shop. I ordered my dress back in May and it finally came into the shop a couple of weeks ago but I am having some sleeves put on it as I have some scarring on my arms I'm not comfortable with so I need to meet with the seamstress to look at starting that. The shop also said I need my shoes by the new year so they can look at my hem and said I should be ordering the veil and belt asap. I ordered a 2nd hand veil from a person on facebook and when it came it had holes in so now I'm gutted. I had to send it back and its put me off of trusting anyone else, so now will probably end up paying for a more expensive shop brought one I feel like everytime I try and save some money it backfires!!
Oh well, onwards and upwards....I must say I loved trying on the dress that is my ACTUAL dress...it was really exciting!
  • staple- I did! Went to a ex-sample store the next town over with my mum and both bridesmaids. Didn't have that "omg this is my dress" moment but i love it all the same! Its also not even remotely what I thought i'd get/what i wanted so that was a surprise
  • Hi all, how are your plans all shaping up?
Thought I'd give an update as I was a bit panicked when we first set the date a few weeks ago because there was so much to do. Pleased to say that since then I've managed to book church, reception venue (with catering), photographer, florist, band for reception, and hair stylist. I've also designed some save the dates which will be finished this week. I'm so relieved it's all coming together and I've really enjoyed doing it. Just need to make a decision about my dress on Monday!
Would love to hear how you're all progressing!
  • Hey ladies how are you all getting on?
I have 7 months to go from today eeeek
Everything still seems to be under control though haven't done a lot recently. Just come back from holiday as well so this cold weather is not good and makes me want to hibernate, here's hoping that May is nice and sunny next year
Did manage to book annual holiday insurance though so it will cover the honeymoon as well next year so was thinking there.
Rainbowneeks I definately know what you mean about everytime you look at the list and budget it seems to get more expensive. Can't believe the price of some wedding items.
Sammy J did you make a decision on your dress?
Dundeediva I know what yo umean about wondering where the bridezilla will come out, mine only raised her head once concerning bridesmaid dresses, but I managed to keep her in check.
Staple28 sounds like you got a bargain on your shoes! I believe my OH and his groomsmen are hiring suits as he doesn't wear one for work so seems a bit of a waste to him. FOB (well in my case my brother) is wearing the same.
Lots of you ladies got your dresses in outlets, do they sell veils as well as I'm still looking for one that will go with my dress. They all seem too OTT or very plain and they weren't very helpful with them in the shop when I got my dress. I did think of asking other recent brides I know to borrow theirs but unsure if that would seem weird?
Been getting RSVP's back in the post and on my website so is really exciting and feeling more and more real now!!!
