A question about : Mattress recommendations? [UPDATED]

Update:
Buying a mattress is so confusing. I'm not sure if I should go to for pocket spring, memory foam or open coil.

Any advice? I've seen lots of resources online, but they contradict each other. Some state that memory foam are the future, while others say they lack support and give off toxic fumes.

Ideally looking for a good (Single size) mattress for under Ј200, to replace my KozeeSleep spring mattress.

I'm not bothered about Spring or memory foam just as long as it is comfortable, provides support and will last for 8-10 years. I am about 13 Stone and sleep alone on either my back or side.

Original Question:

My back is killing me. I think its because of mattress - it's over 15 years old!

The mattress is Kozee Sleep Balmoral, so I thought I would replace it with the same one. Is this brand still any good.

I've searched around and found that Kozee Sleep comes recommended on these forums, but it's always the Duchess or Empress that's mentioned, I never see anything about the Balmoral.

Also, my bed is a funny long size (3ft x 6.75ft), so i'll probably have to get a custom size (which is what I did 15 years ago).

Thanks for any advice.

  • I was looking at Kozeesleep and on googling them to try and find a supplier I found articles like the one here, safe to say I won't be buying from them! https://www.recruiter.co.uk/news/2014...very-offences/
  • Aaahhh!! Buying a mattress is so confusing. I'm not sure if I should go to for pocket spring, memory foam or open coil.
There's an excellent MSE thread here from 2007 but after reading it all I am even more confused.
    Any advice?
  • We are looking at pocket spring with hand stitched sides, no memory foam or latex, scared it will be too hot for me (menopause blergh!) I have read that a firm bed is not necessarily better for you, will let you know what we find!
  • In the end I went for the Layezee 800 from Argos. It's normally Ј199.99 but if you use the discount code SAVE20 you get Ј40 off. It comes on Sunday, so hopefully it is good!
  • I am looking to buy a mattress. I've been looking for quite while already. I must say this is very confusing.
Had any of you experience with this mattress?
memoryfoamwarehouse Double Coolmax Deluxe 1000 Pocket Sprung Memory Foam Mattress.
Will be 5cm thick, 50km/m3 memory foam density enough to support 80kg body?
  • 50km/m3 memory foam is very cheap memory foam.
60 or even 85 is a better product.
Memory isn't designed to support the body, it's just a hard wearing comfort layer. The "stuff" under the memory foam is what's going to support the body, which is either foam or springs. In this case it's springs.
  • I really wouldn't like to spend more than Ј300. Have anyone seen any pocket sprung double mattress, with 5cm of memory foam, 60kg/m3 density?
  • It's close to 5cm of memory foam.

    Quite a gentle feel mattress.

    Firmer option.
  • I personally avoid any metal coils in the matress.
You can google it to read more. I have just taken the below from Institute for Geopathology
Yes, it is proclaimed that Coil Spring Mattresses are the best there are! They are stated to be the best to fully supports the sleeper's body weight and adjust to the body's shape and are even promoted and endorsed by many orthopaedic surgeons and physiotherapists.
    - If you still believe THIS, which is true never the less, but somehow the most important information was not communicated and therefore you should definitely read this article! I would have to actually call it an ''antenna and amplifier with an attached resonating circuit''. Why this is the case I will describe as follows.
Yet another complicating factor to your HEALTH - believe it or not- is the use of a coil spring mattress, as this will work like an amplifier of various electro magnetic fields and radiation (EMF/EMR) and also Geopathic Zones. - This is especially true - and aggravating the problems - when you are also using an electric blanket, as the electric energy is directly transferred to into the mattress, which is then amplifying the electrical field and radiation resonating at the mains frequency of 50Hz/60Hz depending of the country.
  • Has anyone had an experience with the Airsprung mattress brand especially the Hush and Lyon brands?
