A question about : Making the most of Facebook as a wedding resource

Hi,

I'm just starting to looking into planning my wedding (at a lesiurely pace as it won't be til 2017!)

I just wanted to give my first impressions and ask other peoples opinions of using Facebook as a resource for finding suppliers, getting help etc.

I have found a few interesting pages, particularly Peek-A-Boo Weddings which ran an online wedding fayre a couple of weeks ago which I thought was interesting as it posted work from a whole range of suppliers over the evening. Some of the suppliers I looked at from there have then posted special offers and even competitions - as an example, Once Upon a Dream Wedding Planners in Suffolk currently have a competition running to win a free wedding planning party which I've entered (fingers crossed!)

Has anyone else found any good businesses through facebook that do offers/comping/help you start narrowing things down? I feel a little bit overwhelmed when I just do google searches so it would be good to follow a few good pages, and I love a competition!

I'd be interested to hear any advice title=Smile

Best answers:

  • I joined a "North West Weddings" group which has been helpful (I live in Cheshire). For example; I posted asking for recommendations for Videographers. I got loads of replies, which was good, but also the same company kept cropping us as recommended so that was who I ended up going with in the end.
I think it's good for recommendations, you can google for suppliers but no way of telling whether they are as good as their website make out / if they're reliable etc etc.
  • If you are in Scotland, there is a forum for Scottish Brides. I imagine there might be one for England as well but I haven't looked.

I have found a lot of good stuff on there. The only downside I have found is that response times are a bit slow/non-existant.
I got in touch with an amazing glass decorator but she has never gotten back in touch. Which makes me wonder if I should find someone else or if she just doesn't use FB anymore.
  • There are a LOT of wedding related Facebook groups as well which can be brilliant for finding things on a budget. This is because typically the suppliers will be small one man bands or married brides looking to sell used stuff.
However word of warning. Be very careful and always pay using Paypal/credit card. This is because sometimes scammers post but a well run group, the admins will be wise to the tricks and get them booted.
Also don't ask for recommendations for photographers unless you want to be crushed under the avalanche of notifications from everyone offering to shoot your wedding from Ј100 - Ј1500!
