A question about : Make money as a mystery shopper

I have heard that this is an extra way of making cash in your spare time. When doing a search on the net quite a few companies come up.

Just a few questions:

Whats involved?
How often do they contact you?
How much money can you make (in spare time)?
What are the best companies to use?

• When I was thinking of doing this I came across this site which I found had the answer to every question you can think of, and more.
  There is also a list of MS companies on this site.
  Members are extremely friendly and helpful.
  Initially, you'll have to decide whether you want to go S/E or PAYE

• I also pick up stuff from gapbuster, post office jobs are great as I also sell on eBay.
  Affectionatley known as gutbuster on the MS forum for all the burger jobs that are available. he do get sickening very quickly.
  I no longer pick up any burger jobs but wait for them to contact me with them for extra incentive, it's just not worth my petrol etc for Ј4.
  Grass Roots are great, I get varied jobs with them and it's always at Ј10.

• I'm registered with grassroots and the jobs come through in batches. I have had 7 job offers so far this week but none for the previous two weeks.
  The payment takes about three weeks to hit my account, so not too bad.

• I didn't even notice it's so old, it's still relevant. The Gapbuster people have cancelled my account. The account was active probably as long ago as this thread was started. I set up another account with a different e-mail but it too got cancelled. How do they know it's me? Do they log IP addresses? I really wish I could register because I want to to the petrol and post office shops but not the burger ones! Any ideas?
  And if anybody knows shops Boots or BB's muffins I'd appreciate a PM--I know from the other thread that we can't put too many details on here.
  My local BB's muffins has a framed cert saying they got 100% in their mystery shop but it doesn't name the company.
