A question about : Looking for a good interest account for student

My son had Ј3900.00 in the Halifax on a 4% odd ISA which comes to an end beginning of March. He's a student. Not sure what the best thing to do with the money is. Nothing seems to have much interest being paid on it so I don't want to tie the money up at 2% for 4 years although I guess it might be a long while before interest rates and ISA rates improve. If I had to, I could pay in Ј25-40 a month into an account for him if that's the best way to get interest.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do?

Best answers:

  • can't quite understand what you paying 25 a month has to do with him having 3,900 in saving
but current a/cs pay the best rates if he can get them being a student
  • If this is a matured ISA then your son should now be controlling this money.

"Junior ISAs automatically turn into an adult ISA when the child turns 18."
He could look for the best ISA rate or general savings rate https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/a...et-branch.html but interest rates are very poor.
If he can open say a TSB classic plus (set for paperless statements and correspondence) and a couple of Tesco current accounts, he could fund them by pushing money between the accounts every month and add the pocket money you are giving him?
