A question about : Legal right to know A Level results

Does anyone know if a parent is legally entitled to know their child's A Level results?

If so how do they go about it?

Many thanks in advance for any advice/assistance.

Best answers:

  • Some info here
    https://ico.org.uk/for_the_public/top...ls/pupils_info
  • The fact that it's A-levels suggests that the "child" is over 16...I imagine that he or she can choose whether or not to share results. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.
  • I just wanted to know the legal position...
  • As they are A level results, the receiver is likely to be 18, and so an adult.
Legally I doubt parents, or other relatives have a legal right to know the A level results.
The onus would be on the person receiving the results to inform whoever they choose to.
  • Many schools pass exam results to the local media (and they are legally allowed to do so even under DPA) for publication.
Our local paper publishes results from schools across the area, usually its initial and surname and then the number of exam passes they got in a certain grade range - e.g. A to C or A to E. Thats on the website, I can't recall if the paper version provides more detail in the grades obtained but from what I recall neither give the actual subject and grade obtained, just the number.
  • Exam results belong to the student. We have to have written permission from the student for the results to be given to the parent so no, there is no legal right
