A question about : Last-minute package deals?

Hello all,

My partner and I got married towards the end of 2014 and are planning a big trip to South East Asia for our honeymoon this December. In the meantime though, as we're both keen travellers, we have seriously itchy feet...

We're going to be in the north of England towards the end of May, and were wondering about the possibility of getting a 5-7 day last-minute package deal somewhere, perhaps flying from Manchester, Newcastle, or even Edinburgh/Glasgow airport. We thought this might be a cost-effective way of travelling, whilst still saving for our honeymoon.

Does anyone have any experience of buying last-minute flights+accommodation deals? Which airports/websites would you recommend to find the best deals? How far in advance would you recommend booking them? And - most importantly - are they any good...?

Any and all advice would be gratefully recieved! Thanks very much for reading.

Best answers:

  • Holiday Hypermarket is my favourite! Have had some absolute bargains last minute from there if you are not fussy on destination!
A week all inclusive in a 5 star amazing hotel in Turkey for Ј135 each is my current record! (Not keen on Turkey but couldn't turn that one down!)
  • Thanks very much for your reply - that sounds exactly like the sort of deal we'd be hoping for!
What would you consider to be appropriately "last minute" to start looking for bargain deals...? How far in advance of travel do you start seeking out options?
    Thanks again!
  • Have a look at the early March ones that are on sale now and see if you think they are a bargain or just lastminute.
  • Go before the 22 as its half term...
    Try olympicholidays too
  • Many tour operators reduce their holidays around 10 weeks before. This is generally for term time only. Whenever the kids are on holiday, prices tend to hike rather than come down the closer that you get to departure. Avoid around 23/24 May as that is Whit week holiday. 7 night durations will be offered by the main tour ops such as Thomas Cook, Thomson, Cosmos. If you want a shorter duration, some operators will do them but you are more likely to get under 7 nights with a low cost flight such as Monarch, Easyjet etc. In which case, the earlier you book, the cheaper the flights. Good Luck
