A question about : Lacey's Event Sevices

Hi,
Just a quick impartial review of Lacey's Event Services.
We booked them to decorate the venue for our wedding on 8th November this year. I first became nervous after we paid our 50% deposit when we couldn't get hold of them. I decided to do a bit of Google'ing and found that the owner of Lacey's, Charlotte Hancox, used to own a company called Swags and Sashes. Some more searching uncovered horrendous customer service, ripping people off not providing customers with the service they paid for and taking loads of bookings before going into liquidation. Too late to cancel without losing money I decided to pay a little extra by paying the remainder by credit card for the added protection (thank god I did).
I must admit I was surprised, and thankful, that they turned up on the day and did everything that we asked them to. Albeit we had to straighten a few sashes here and there and the chair covers were not the cleanest but nothing worthy of complaining about.
The venue removed all of the chair covers with the sashes still attached after the day and put them all in a bag for them to collect which they did.
We then get an email saying that 35 sashes were missing and they were holding onto our security deposit.
I have been trying to call them since but it just goes to voicemail or I get someone unwilling to give their name (I suspect is Charlotte) who is unable to help me and will ask her to call me which never happens.
There is no possible way that these sashes can be missing without the chair covers also being missing, due to the way they were taken off, which they have confirmed have been returned. Also it is only cheap organza ribbon so how can they justify holding onto the full deposit??
Anyway am working with my credit card company and trading standards to get my money back (only Ј50 but it's the principle and if I have to spend Ј200 getting it back that's fine with me).

So if you want uncertainty about them turning up, appalling customer service, mediocre quality products and lining the pockets of someone with a history of ripping off and ruining the biggest day of people's lives then use Lacey's, if not shop around and ask for recommendations from friends, family, colleagues etc.

  • Also I can highly recommend Little Channels in Chelmsford. The day went really smoothly, the food was delicious and Chloe and Henry were fab at all times.
