A question about : Keeping a Tivo box

Is it true that i can keep my Tivo box after a years contract has passed?

Virgin says they will collect it back however a few people have said its now mine if owned for 12 months?

Myth?

Best answers:

  • Virgin do not sell equipment, they lease it.
They remain the owner of the equipment at all times.
Therefore you have to return it or allow them to collect it if you cease to be a customer.
The story you've heard apply to Sky.
  • If you fail to return it you will be charged for the cost.
But if you cancel your contract the box will be of little use anyway.
  • I was suprised to hear from my mother that Virgin are physically coming to pick up their stuff from her house. Told her to tie them down to a 2 hour band or equipment will be in garden.
  • The benefit of you not owning the equipment after 12 months is that if there is a fault, they are responsible for fixing or replacing it whereas with Sky, after 12 months it is out of their hands and you are responsible for fixing/replacing it.
  • I am with Virgin - and thinking of leaving and going with EE... EE have just told me that I am allowed to keep the Tivo box and that they have other customers who have done just that without charge.
I won't be doing this myself, it clearly states that their will be a charge... - but it's interesting that they are telling customers this
