A question about : Ј3 Truprint photo 'mug' offer via MSE!

Charming - I used the Ј3 photo mug offer with Truprint via MSE the other day & just noticed that I've been charged Ј3 + Ј1 + Ј1, three transactions on my c/c statement.

Spoke to Truprint who say the 2 x Ј1 transactions were for verifying the c/c, apparently they don't actually take the money - funny it's on my c/c statement then & certainly has been 'taken'.

I'm furious that this company seem to have helped themselves to additional costs without my authorisation & were casually unhelpful on the phone. Raised 2 transaction disputes, petty for 2 quid but don't plan on just letting this go.

Best answers:

  • Isnt this standard practice to verify identity, usually the money is only ring fenced and not actually taken, is it actually showing 3 transactions or has the balance just been adjusted? Naughty of them if it has
  • Oh noes, two pounds!
  • I also used this offer and tried to check out the Ј3 balance showing. I wanted to use PayPal, but every time I clicked on the PayPal link, it tried to charge me Ј9.98. I eventually paid by credit card and it only charged the Ј3.
BTW, my Amex regularly shows a few 'extra' Ј1 or Ј2 charges in the pending items section but these always disappear again once the transaction is processed and hits the statement. Used to freak me out but now I just make a note to check they don't stay around ... and they never have.
  • Mine was also an Amex payment, but I've never seen this type of thing before on my statement.
The 3 entries show on the statement with all other transactions listed since the last statement dated 15 Nov (& included in the transactions & balance totals).
Truprint have now said that there are actually 4 Ј1 transactions which will all show as credits in a few days, though can't see these additional 2 at the moment. Claim I must have made 4 attempts to pay for the product - I certainly did NOT.
bsms1147 - pleased you eventually managed to come up with something more constructive to write, of course if you are happy to have unauthorised transactions for 2/3rds more than they should be, then that's your choice. Sadly you've missed the ENTIRE point - it's the transactions that are the problem, not the amount. Having had my PayPal a/c hacked once before, I'm more aware of what's going on nowadays & wary of small amounts which may be 'testing the water'.
  • Just checked my Amex statement today. The Ј3 is showing as a 'pending' item (RBS Worldpay) along with an additional Ј1 which has a '*' next to it. From previous experience, these starred items tend to disappear after a few days.
Tiny Tina, I guess people are checking their statements online - I don't get any paper statements anymore.
  • I've just ordered one of the mugs and the email receipt I received definitely says Ј3. Paid via Paypal.
  • I've just looked at my statement again today and both the Ј3 and the Ј1 have processed on to the completed transaction list. I've emailed Truprint so will be interested to see what their excuse is. Nice little earner if they get an extra pound from everyone who takes up the cheap mug offer.
I use them fairly regularly and have never had this issue before. Their products and service are usually good so I hope it all gets resolved as I won't be buying anything else from them (or Snapfish) if it isn't sorted.
  • Storm in a teacup - they'll go in a couple of days.
As everyone has pointed out, they are used widely to verify the card.
They are not skimming off thousands of pounds from their customers so no need to get so stressed out over it!
I've got some tin hats for sale if you are interested OP?
  • Hi guys, missed the e mail last week, is this still live and if so is there a Code?? Many thanks..
  • Got mine on Wednesday. Pleased as Punch and only debitted Ј3!
i believe the offer is now over!
  • Nice earner for Truprint/Snapfish. Sell the product via MSE offer, then load additional 2 x Ј1 charges onto my initial Ј3 cost. It HAS been charged to my card & has not been 'refunded'.
9 days & I'm still waiting for the refund of the unauthorised charges, email asking why go unanswered. Multiply by how many people this may be happening to & the cheap mugs won't be such a 'loss leader'. Won't be falling for this again.
Ј2, who cares frankly - it's the principle.
