A question about : iPhone says I can't take photos as no storage

Hi all,

I take a lot of photos using my iPhone (but do regularly delete and clean up), but just tonight it said that I couldn't take any more as I had no storage.

I pay monthly for extra storage from Apple, so why wouldn't I have enough?

Any ideas would be great, thanks.

Best answers:

  • Maybe you've run out of storage on the phone itself?
  • Thanks both. So if I've run out of space on the phone itself, why wouldn't the overspill automatically go to iCloud? Or is that not how it works?
  • You need to back up to iCloud manually and/or set it to sync iCloud photos.
  • Yeah, you're paying for extra storage on iCloud not on your phone. When you take a pic, video or install an app it all uses space on your phone irrespective of how much iCloud storage you may have.
  • If you are on the latest version of iOS any deleted photos go into an album called Recently Deleted. Whilst they are in this album they are still taking up space. You need to delete that album to recover the free space.

  • The situation with photos on Apple devices is slightly complicated at the moment as Apple is rolling out a new app which handles photos differently.
As I understand it if you delete the photo on the phone that will also delete it on iCloud.
Do you own a desktop or laptop? If so before you do anything else please back up your photos so that you have additional copies.
