A question about : Inter Credit DVLA Fine

hello
well the short story is I received a letter from Inter-Credit International informing me they'd been appointed to collect Ј80 from me for a scooter I owned about a year ago. Basically the DVLA claim i was the registered keeper of an unlicenced vehicle on 01/06/2010
(i dont even know what that means)

alot of people say its a scam and that if i ignore them they would go away but also just got one from TRUST RECOVERIES with a FINAL NOTICE for me to pay the Ј80 or else it will goto county court and my vehicle will be impounded even tho i sold that last october

even if i wanted to pay the Ј80 i couldn't since all my bills have been piling since i was made redundant

im not sure what to do

Best answers:

  • Did you inform the DVLA the scooter was of the road at the time?
Basically dont be scared of the empty threats from debt recovery agencies, they cant take you to court. dont enter into correspondence with them
  • ive contacted dvla and found out it was because the scooter wasnt tax for 3-4 months
but those 3-4 months the scooter was at a garage being repaired and the guy in garage said there wasnt any point in taxing the scooter when it ran out because he didn't know if it was going to run again because it was having major engine problems
i didnt know anythign about having to tell DVLA that it was off road or anythign
never covered that when i did my cbt or anything
  • There's your problem. If your car/bike is off the road you must declare a SORN. If not, as you have found out you are liable to be fined.
  • Why did you post this here?
The Motoring forum is the place for this as it is not a subject CAB will entertain here. The "Read Before Posting" thread and the Splash Screen you had to read and pass when you came on this board make it quite clear what gets covered:
    · dealing with debts and debt disputes
    · housing benefit
    · tax credits & benefits for people in work or looking for work
    · your basic rights at work and redundancy problems
