Hi, very new to this business so apologies if this is a stupid question.

I have a few items that are not worth more than Ј200 individually but recently I bought an engagement ring for Ј495. I want to insure it but initial searches bring me to blanket cover contents insurance which comes to about Ј20 a month with Ј100 excess.

I looked at stand alone jewellery insurance which would cover all jewellery worth up to Ј1000 for Ј53 a year, no excesses. This looks like the best option so far, but ideally I would like an insurance policy for around the same price and cover, but which included my other items, such as laptop (Ј200) and push bike (Ј100).

My question is, does such a thing exist? If so, where would I find it?

• Contents insurance will cover your items. Anything over a set value may need declaring. And smaller value items may not be worth claiming for as it may increase future premiums.
  Check the smallprint on the jewellery insurance. No excess in all claims or do they add on in some circumstances?
  Will they pay out the full value you paid or the trade price for the item?
  Will the policy then end and the replacement wont be covered?
  Ј20 month contents only is quite dear. You can get basic contents for under Ј10 a month.
  But claiming for low value items is usually not worth it.
