A question about : Income support disregarded earnings
Hello,
I've had a letter from JS this morning regarding my IS and I've noticed that my small private pension of Ј12 a week is being deducted. I thought that there was an income disregard? Ј20 in case of disability?
Does anyone know if pensions are exempt from this disregard - before I go calling them and get fobbed off.
I'm a single mum with a disability and get the disabled and severely disabled premiums.
Thanks.
Best answers:
- What kind of pension are you receiving?
Occupational and private pensions are deducted in full.

28090 onwards - Yes this is right, any means tested benefits are reduced as this is extra income and will be reduced pound for pound. OH has a pension and is on disability premiums and esa. When on income support this was taken into account too. Thank goodness they know about it as some where down the line they would ask for it back and a lot of people are not aware of this.
- There is a disregard of earnings not of income. Up to Ј20 of earnings can be disregarded dependant on the reason for claiming IS. Pension is taken fully into account.
