A question about : Iceland online shoppers: prepay and save

Iceland extend the Bonus Card Savings Scheme to online shoppers.

Anyone else that uses Iceland online (who apparently offer the UK's best value christmas dinner according to Good Housekeeping Magazine) can now use their Bonus Card online.

Go online and top up your bonus card with Ј25, or multiples of Ј25.
Within 48 hours a free Ј1 bonus is added for each Ј25.
The balance is available to spend online.
(the actual top-up appears immediately, the bonus may take a day or two - although I've found it can in reality be under an hour)

The bonus card savings feature was previously an instore affair only, and not for us online shoppers.

If you are a cashback credit card user, it's worth noting that you can top up the bonus card by credit card so you can still get whatever credit card cashback you normally would on your shopping.

Given that an online order has a minimum order requirement of Ј35, every online shop can be at least Ј1 cheaper simply by remembering to top up your bonus card with the amount you expect to spend a couple of days before you shop. Any unspent remainder stays on the card, or you can use up the whole balance and then pay the difference when you're ordering.

MSE has always pointed out the advantage of these savings schemes, but they are not usually available to us online shoppers - until now. Hurrah. :-)

  • Now they've upped it to Ј35, I can never find enough stuff to buy to get to Ј35 given that huge swathes of their food is full of mono and diglycerides of fatty acids and other equally dubious looking things. OH has NCGS so he can't eat all that gluten and wheat in everything either.
