A question about : IB medical assessment

I received an IB50 form a while ago, and sent it back and it was delivered on the 6th. Yesterday I received a letter asking me to call a number to arrange an appointment for my medical assessment, letter was dated 10th Jan.
Having read some people's posts about it taking so long to receive an appointment I was quite shocked to receive mine so soon after sending my form back. Ive also never had to call for an appointment before, its always been sent in a letter, is this new?
Readig more posts it seems it takes some time for the IB50 form to get to who needs it, but it would seem mine has got there very fast or this appointment letter is automated? Im worried now incase the person I have to go and see hasnt even seen my form. My appointment is for in 2 weeks.
I must admit Im feeling quite upset about it, as I tried to explain everything fully in the form. I feel stressed already and I still have 2 weeks to go!
Anyone else had this happen so fast?

  • It all depends how busy they are in your area tbh I doubt theres anything sinister in it being so quick, also as I understand it medical services recieve the IB50 then decide if they need to see you,so i`m sure they will have it when they see you.It also seems that most places that used to just send out appts now get you to phone them to make an appt, our local hospitals all do this now.
Try not to worry too much
  • It may vary from area to area but I have read of other people that have had to call for an appointment before so it is not new. You will receive a letter to confirm the appointment. The appointment letter is not automated because they would have to act on the IB50 that you returned.
It does seem very quick as it usually does take longer to have a medical arranged.
  • I sent mine in mid December and got my letter yesterday to arrange an appointment.
  • I wouldnt complain. At least you will have an answer on what is happening soon.
  • So I had my medical today. I dont think it went very well. I found it difficult to explain things as I was in a bit of a state. Got to wait for the letter now.
  • i had to phone too for appointment it was for following week ! then remembered had appointment that day , so rang back to change it . to be told this is your last chance no more changing ... i was only on phone 3 min ago arranging it .you can't have afternoon now ! morning 11 am.! OK .yes sir .. cound'nt understand the doctor hardly , even forgot what pills im on ! just gave him the bag of pills ect. totally brain dead. he only asked what time i got up ... looked at super dopper consultant surgeon report i took , gave up and said thank you, finished, bye, leave in your own time... not sure what to think and terriberly stressed out with woory over it now. as was in confused state
  • I got the feeling the woman I spoke to wasnt really interested, she kept talking to my Husband rather than me which left me feeling a little like whats she doing?
Asking me what I do during the day, well I dont do much so I said so but she wanted to know every single thing I do during the day, what I had for lunch yesterday, what my book is about, who makes the bed??? Its not physical things I have a problem with, I suffer from depression and anxiety and struggle to go out. I said I dont see my family much so she said "Well, you'll just have to get on the bus and go see them then wont you?" Like.. yeah.. bit difficult when this appointment was the furthest Ive travelled in a long time! I dunno, Im just worried because I was crying and didnt really explain things very well but I felt she was being pushy and not giving me time to sort myself out and answer properly. Guess I just wait and see now, waiting for the letter to arrive. Im not sure if being on CMP will help me, as they know some of my problems but Ive only been 3 or 4 times so far so havent gone through everything.
  • I've just had mine today and I dont think it went very well either. It was nothing like the one last year. I man was Asian which made it a bit hard to understand at times. Also he just seemed very uninterested.
He asked me what a tipical day was like, then before I had time to answer he fired 3 more questions at me. 'What time do you get up?' What time do you go to bed?' and can you do housework?'
Very strange interveiw indeed. I will be astonished if I get passed.
  • Thats pretty much what it was like for me, she just didnt seem interested.
Ive got my fingers crossed for you Lucy
  • good luck to every one , seems all in the same boat with a hole in it . sniff sniff , this makes you so much worst ,will worry over it.
  • Does anyone know how long it usually takes to hear from them? I cant remember ever having to wait to find out if Ive passed or not and I just keep worrying and getting myself upset!
  • Mine was as quick as yours too and I remember been shocked, however it was nothing to worry about. I heard I had passed within around 2-3 weeks I think.
  • So Im in for a wait Oh well! Just gotta keep fingers and toes crossed lol
  • Last year I waited just over a week.
