A question about : I need to start eating clean / lose weight.

Hi guys,

I am 23 years old (male) just under 6 foot and weight 11 stone 4 pounds.

If you saw me you wouldnt think I need to lose weight, but I do, around my tummy and I do have slight b00bs title=Frown

I dont want to bulk up / get big.

I just want a lean stomach, and feel confident when I take my top off. At the moment I dont have the confidence.

I have started to eat clean this week...this my my food for today

Breakfast: Poached egg, 1 slice of brown bread

Fruit smoothy, 1 banana, 4 strawberries, hand full of blueberries and 4 table spoons of low fat yoghart

Snack before lunch: 4 Rivitas with low fat butter, 1 apple.

Lunch: 1 medium chicken breast with brown rice and a nandos sauce.

After lunch snack: Apple & grapes.

Dinner: Roast dinner.

Snack after dinner: Crackers with tuna.

I used to have chocolate at work, crisps, cheese and ham sandwiches. So I have improved my diet.

I cant get to a gym so I will be going for a 20 minute run every evening before dinner.

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

  • You're not particularly heave for your height so it sounds like you really need to build muscle rather than lose any weight. Would you be able to start working out with weights at home, if you can't make it to a gym?
  • Hi Will. Welcome to the moob club. Your new diet looks very healthy, I'm guessing you might need more food if you are burning up the calories with running.
    I am going to tell you how I am losing weight, and please don't confuse it with dietary or health advice, it is just what I am doing!!
    I don't eat during the day. It is really hard to begin with, but gets much easier. My evening meal is something I look forward to all day but is about one third the size of what I was eating before. I have cut out almost all pasta/rice/potatoes/bread but I do have an occasional bit of cake because it is my business and quality control is important.
    I drink 1-2 bottles of wine on Friday and Saturday nights, so 3-4 bottles a week.
    I've lost 5 stone so far, one more to go.
    The moobs are still here, they might be getting smaller but it doesn't feel like it. If any one has any advice on losing them I'd love to hear it, unless it is about bra sizes.

  • There are at least half a dozen dedicated threads dotted about the forum relating to losing wieght/eating better, you should have a look at some of them.
  • Will I don't know for sure, but I think that building muscle will mean that new muscle will eat your fat. However you cannot focus on losing fat from specific areas, your muscles will choose where they get it from. But don't take my word for it, I'm more Buddha than Rocky.

  • Any misunderstanding is possible here. But it does make your hair grow, Jimmy.
  • Cardio alone won't help - if you don't have time/money for the gym, try out Jillian Michaels 30DS, the insanity workout, p90x - all are a combo of cardio and weights, short in length and very effective. Also, all free on the internet, so can be done with a little floorspace.
    Eat as little refined food as possible, ditch the ryvita and low fat yoghurt. Replace with greek yoghurt, nuts and vegetables like Flick says. I personally think the brown rice is okay - maybe substitute for sweet potato or quinoa some days if you can.
    Other than that, remember it is natural for the body to have a little fat. It takes a lot of work to get 'bulky' - a combo of weights and cardio will be most effective for you, cardio alone will keep you 'skinny fat', which is what you're seeing now.
  • Just start doing some sit ups and press ups.
  • I'd say try to eat less carbs then your body will start burning fat.
  • Swimming is really good for getting rid of moobs .
