A question about : I know this sounds a bit.....

...weird, maybe, but I was wondering what people's views are on willing certain wins. Are there people here who have focused their minds in winning a particular prize and subsequently won it?

I ask partly because I used to work with a woman who seemed to have great success at bingo, not just winning, but winning when she needed it most. For example, she needed a new kitchen, but couldn't afford it, then won Ј3,000 to buy one with. When I asked her what her secret was, she said you just have to want it enough. She genuinely didn't believe it was just luck.

So my question is: Can you will a prize or win one with positive thinking, and if so, can anyone here give examples?

Thanks

  • When the Wii Fit came out I was determined to win one. Hubs offered to buy it but I refused saying I would win.. I did.. but it took a year of entering every comp going.
Also a while ago when entering a comp for a weekend break in Lavenham, I had a fleeting thought that I'd really love this.. I didn't give it any further thought but , yes, I had the wem a while later.
I think positive thinking really works and equally negative thoughts can have the opposite effect.
  • Well it may not work but it certainly can't hurt to try.
Give it a go, test drive the power of intention!
  • "I was just thinking of you when you phoned, spooky"
Nope, people just forget every time they thought of someone that they didn't phone.
Comping would be no different with there being tens of thousands of people who have not won when they really wanted to for every one who has and even those who do win will forget all the times they did not and still believe "positive thinking " works.
  • Going by your signature , what made you think of wanting to win some deodorant ?

Fair enough, that makes far more sense! Look, I'm sleep deprived, with a teething baby and a snoring husband (hence posting this reply at 3.30am) so I end up wondering about stuff! I didn't say I thought it worked, although being positive never hurts, I just wondered if anyone had any examples of prizes they were desperate for and "knew" they would win, is all!
Seems probably not! Oh, and sax, quite simply, you can never have too much deodorant.
  • I am not a superstitious person. I don't believe in God, guardian angels or ghosts. Having said that there have strange times when money has come to me when I needed it the most - for example I left my first University course because I was so unhappy and hated the course, when I arrived back in Birmingham I had literally not a penny to my name (just a load of debt). My mom picked me up from the coach station and in the car on the way home the radio station announced my birthday and said anyone with that birthday should call in to take part in an on-line comp. So I did and I won... just Ј76 but at the time that was so much money to me.
There have been other times like that and I always say to people money will come when you need it most.
Though I have no spiritual beliefs I do have a strong belief in Karma. Whether it is true or not, it's a good way to live your life... "You give a little love and it all comes back to you."
  • I believe it's all down to luck and if it's meant to be, it will be
I've told this story before, but my OH won Ј100 worth of Tesco points - won in the January, so we decided we would double them up and use them against a purchase of a much-needed TV (we had an old CRT TV at the time). The promoter messed our prize up and we didn't actually get the points until May. The week before they cleared on our card I won a TV through the Doritos and Pepsi comp
And then, last year, our fridge freezer kept playing up. As it was October, I was going to have to use some of the Christmas fund to buy a new one. I decided to buy one on the Wednesday, but on the Tuesday I had a call to say I'd won Ј1000 worth of vouchers for a supermarket of my choice. I chose Tescos and bought a lovely FF from there and most of the Christmas presents too!
    Fate? Maybe
  • I have been a person who read and watched The Secret. Have watched many an Abraham video. I think detachment is where it's at. Think there is nothing stopping you receiving great things. And move on without being attached to an outcome.
I manage to stay positive whether I win or not.
    Do win a lot? Yes.
Do I enter a lot? Yes.
Do I disproprtionately win more than the next comper? No.
Do I rationalise whether or not my time is better spent doing other things? No.
Is it worth my time? Yes. I find it fun.
Does anybody ever win these things? Yes.
How can you enter them all? You pretty much can't.
How do you decide which ones to enter? I ask friends for support in my decision and consult my horoscope, read tea leaves, and meditate for 7 years before entering each draw.
Do you get jealous when other people win big? Of course.
Do people who stay positive win more? No.
Is it down to luck? Yes.
Would staying positive help sustain you through periods of not winning? Yes, but chocolate does this better.
  • I don't really believe in willing things but certainly had some spooky coincidences.
Last year when I was on holiday I got a tweet to say I had won a vax hoover, our old one had been broken (useable but didn't stay upright) for ages. I texted my oh who wasn't on holiday with me to tell him and he had been online that day to order a new hoover but couldn't remember what type I'd been talking about so hadn't placed the order.
More recently I ordered a sound bar for my oh's borthday last month as he'd been going on about one that day, the same day I got a wem to say I had won a tv and soundbar, luckily I was able to cancel the one I had ordered.
So who knows can't hurt to hope!
  • Its just luck and having entered a comp gives you a good enough chance to be drawn as the winner. I always think positively about winning as to me if your in it you could win it and the next biggie for me is always around the corner, I wish for myself a car, cash or holiday win everyday
Though if you think about it everyone that enters a competition lottery, plays bingo gambles etc wishes to win but how many actually do???
  • If positive thinking won you competitions we would all win the big ITV comps.
Funnily enough I tend to win competitions I don't remember.
  • if willing wins worked I wouldn't be here I'd be on a cruise somewhere waiting to come back to play games on my xboxone or watch blu-ray on my 3d smart TV
  • Am a bit on the fence with this willing it malarkey, have had money come through when I most needed it, like the poor cat needing an ear removed cos of cancer. I was desperately trying to figure out how I could pay the Ј600+ when a tax refund of Ј638 came in, in fact the day I took her for the op.
Yet I have never won a iPad, one of the most wanted on my list of things to win since the day they came out. Must have done several thousand iPad comps and Nada.
But right now I am in need of a new bathroom, and almost desperate for external doors ( every time I use back door I think oh this is the day the lock and handle fails on me) and so far nothing useful that I can sell for what I need or the actual items.
  • I don't know how needing a kitchen bin could be linked with winning Ј3000, tbh.
