A question about : I know I should know this but...

I know I can't post a comp for my own site but am I able to let someone else on here have the info to post it?

Not long started a blog and hosting my first giveaway from tomorrow, and yes compers are more than welcome title=ROTFL

Best answers:

  • Not sure about that, cant speak for other but i avoid blog stuff like the plague.
  • Can I ask why? I've had some good wins from rc comps on blogs, though I know sometimes they can be slow sending the prizes, luckily I already have them so don't have to go via a 3rd party.
  • Short answer - no. It's seen as self-promotion.
  • bloggers are very cliquy
they do like to scratch each others backs with giveaways
plus you get other bloggers RT'ing the same tweet over and over with a slight modification for more entries - add that to bots and serial compers and it's a lot of effort for extras that usually come from a sample pack
  • I wouldn't go near blogs, moreso if they are full of comps. Thats prob just me though.
  • Ah ok I've only seen it from the comping side, so haven't really got into the bloggy bit, thought rafflecopter made it fairer (oh and wasn't going to have a daily tweet option), may rethink about giveaways
  • It's not really it's a parenting blog just thought a giveaway would be a good idea, maybe not.
  • I don't tend to enter RC comps unless you only need to do a couple of things. I especially hate the ones that make you follow loads of companies on Twitter as i'm always nearing my follow limit.
  • Please don't be put off running a giveaway. Plenty of people enter comps like this, as it's a great way to promote your blog - if that's what the aim is. Nothing wrong with it at all.
It would be against MSE rules to either list it yourself or to ask someone else to list it, but there is a fair chance of it being added to the site anyway. I'm always impressed with how many comps are found and posted here.
I would see it as a learning thing. Why not give it a go and see what happens? And, as long as you don't provide details of where to find it, you can always ask here for advice or suggestions.
Thanks for your positive attitude to us. Nice to feel not everyone hates us compers Hope it works out well for you.
    Blu X
  • Thanks Blulu I have been a comper far longer than a blogger (5 years to 5 days) so was a little surprised to the negative response as I have entered and won from a fair few blogs in my time.
As you say it's a learning experience, don't want to litter the blog with giveaways because I think it has a lot more interesting content but of course I know from here that it is a great way to promote as long as you are happy to accept that most people are only looking at it for the competition
  • ive had more wins from blogs than anything else so definately go for the blogs if its something i want ( i dont tend to enter for small prizes though) and i definately prefer gleam to rafflecopter!
i couldnt get my giveaway to work on my blog for some reason so gave up on the idea. it just would not load for some reason! i may try another day but untill then ill just continue entering them!
  • I don't mind blogs, won from one recently. I wouldn't take the negativity to heart - for every 1 person moaning there will be 10 people entering.
Go for it - someone somehow will pick it up
Oh and +10 for Gleam over Rafflecopter.
  • If the bloggers that are compers spread it around the other bloggers that the compers are nice people, then the compers would not feel so much negativity towards the bloggers and vice versa.
    I know what I mean
  • I've had wins from blogs, and also ran my own blog giveaways and it's all been positive experiences.
However, as mentioned - Gleam is much nicer than RC to use!
Also, you can post your giveway on ThePrizeFinder - my blog comps have all found their way from there to here at some point, and it gets around the self-promotion rule here
  • I am running a comp on my twitter and asked for it not to be posted be posted on Mse not to exclude compers but purely as I comp here, It's a giveaway really just for compers, I used ninja win and twitaculous and that got it moving.
  • I didn't think it was against forum rules to ask someone to post for you? I like blog comps, not everyone's cup of tea I appreciate, but we all like different things.
  • dont be put off give it a go im sure it wil end up on here anyway-the posters here find any and everything!
    good luck
