A question about : How to Fry an Egg?

Yes, it seems very simple and indeed it is but I have noticed through life many people fry them differently.

One person I know uses at least two table spoons of oil so they can scoop the hot oil to put on the top to cook the yolk a little.

Someone else flips the egg completely so it has a harder yolk.

Person three uses a cookie cutter in the pan with only a tiny amount of oil, although their yolk is always too runny.

How do you cook yours?

Best answers:

  • Little bit of oil, get it hot, egg(s) in the pan then put a lid over it.
  • Hi,
put a smear of oil in
    drop in an
    place under grill,
    or place under
and allow bacon fat to drip on egg until cooked.
  • I heat the pan, crack the egg, fry it and while it's frying I carefully pick out the bits of broken egg. Nah, just kidding. But what I do is pop the yoke and make sure it fries. I've never understood why someone might want an egg and bacon sandwich with a bubble of molten egg yoke in the middle to explode when they bite it.
  • Non-stick pan, a little foaming butter, just set white, lovely runny yolk.
  • I use Fry Light and always sunny side up
P.S a non-stick frying pan is also a good idea!
  • I don't like the whites of the egg so always scramble it in a cup first.
I don't mind the white in a boiled egg.
  • I never fry and egg on its own always with sausages and bacon so I use the fat out of the sausage and bacon but if I was to fry it on its own I'd fry it in a little bit of melted butter type spread that you can use for baking.
  • Melt a generous knob of butter until it starts bubbling and then crack the eggs in to the pan. Use a wooden spatula to slosh the melty butter over the top of the egg, fry until the butter starts to go brown so it all caramelises slightly.
    Eat eggs.
    Feel sick.
    Wish you'd poached eggs instead.
  • Hi,
    prefer mine like this,
  • Since fourth daughter was born wife prefers her eggs unfertilized
  • Certainly spitting sausages make sure your eggs are done for sure.
  • My favourite way is fry the sausages and bacon in a reasonable amount of oil. When they're done, crack an egg into the oil, spoon the oil over the top so the yolk gets cooked but still runny, and the egg gets covered in all the little bits of crunchy sausage & bacon. Yum Yum.
OK, not exactly healthy, but for the once or twice a month I have it who cares
  • If using butter only , you have to be careful not to overheat it otherwise it'll burn ..... maybe better off having a small amount of oil in with the butter as well. This let's the 2 achieve a higher cooking temperature.
Now , cooking a boiled egg is another topic altogether !
  • I'm very fussy about my eggs, cook them on a low heat and turn over at least 4 times. I hate a crispy egg.
As for the yolk issue, I tend to eat around the yolk, then at the end I have a small circular morsel of deliciousness....which I ram into my mouth like an Anaconda eating a Crocodile
