A question about : How do I stand? Help!

Hi, I will try and be brief.

I bought a car in August last year from a large reputable garage

The day after i got it home i noticed some accident damage to the passenger side plastic sill that had been filled

I went straight back to the garage and they were very fair and said they would put it right.

They replaced the sill and painted it and I thought it was a very good job at the time

Now i have just noticed the door is rubbing on the sill and removing the paint

I'm going back to the garage this weekend to discuss with them but just wondered where I stand, do I have any rights?

Thanks all

  • They have replaced the sill and repainted, which is not a trivial job, so I think they have been fair with you so far. The door catching the paint might be just a simple case of adjusting the door hinges. The only thing you can do is take it to them and ask. Hopefully their helpful attitude will continue.
  • Pretty much what Richard has said.
From Aug last year you've got very little in terms of "rights" but it should be a simple adjustment for them to make if you approach them pleasantly to "see if they can help" rather than "demanding" something you're not technically entitled to.
I'd go with something along the lines of you're delighted with the car but you've noticed the rubbing where they replaced the panel and you're worried the loss of paint will create problems in the future, is there anything they can do to help?
  • Although it is a while ago, what kind of car is this? Is it a sill trim lifting and scraping on the bottom of the door, or perhaps a plastic sill facia that has moved?
  • Thanks all, went down to the garage, explained the situation and they said no problem, we will sort it.
    Happy days
