  • Yes you should call a loss adjuster if you are properly insured for property as well as content. Basically loss adjusters work for the company but they will settle the claim on a fair basis. All you need to do is be patient and calm in front of a loss adjuster as he/she will ask lots of questions and its their work to ask, so that they will be able to make an exact assumption of what happened. So be patient and act smartly in front of him and all your claims will be settled by your side hopefully.

  • Hi smywalker,
Firstly sorry to hear about your disaster. You mentioned that you called your landlord. If you are renting the property It should be the landlords responsibility to have buildings insurance. Most building insurance policies also include alternative accommodation costs if your home becomes inhabitable. Regarding the loss adjustor I would welcome this. Give them as much information as you can about what the water company did as It sounds like it is entirely their fault. My advice would be to take photos of all the damage. If you are renting do you have your own contents insurance policy? Try and salvage and dry out as much of your stuff as you can and anything that has been ruined start photographing and making lists of it as you will need all these details for claiming on the insurance. Hope that helps.
