A question about : Housing Benefit Stopped Re: Savings

Hi,

Hoping that someone can give me some advice. When I applied, qualified and got housing benefit last year I was self-employed and had Ј7500 savings. In the meantime I have started a business and used all but Ј400 of my savings. I informed the council of this when I had to renew my claim due to moving house. They have now stopped my housing benefit and want to know exactly where the money has gone.

I have no problem giving this information as I can prove I used ti all the start a business but do they have the right to ask this information and can they stop my benefit in the meantime?
