holiday in cornwall

A question about : holiday in cornwall

im just starting to research for our camping holiday in cornwall, which will be the first week of august.

as yet, we have not chosen where we will be based, or what we are going to do.

we are taking the car and are more than happy to travel.

any places of interest/things to do you can suggest? we enjoy exploring castles and going for long walks, but are open to all ideas.

i need to add more to my list than new quay, the eden project and padstow

all ideas greatfully received, as im not that familiar with this neck of the woods

• Cornwall in August tends to be a bit packed out, but hopefully the weather will be good for you. It's a few years since we've holidayed there, so maybe this has changed, but quite a few self-catering places took bookings mid-week to mid-week because the traffic congestion on a Saturday was so horrendous!
  Polzeath for the beach and Tintagel are two of my favourites from years ago, so hope they don't disappoint. Castle (allegedly King Arthur's, although of course you might think he was Welsh ) and Old Post Office at Tintagel. Oh, and St Enodoc's, church that was buried in the sand for years - but can't remember whether that's near Polzeath / Padstow or Camelford, where we honeymooned (everyone say "Aaaaah!")
  IIRC we camped in Padstow one year - NOT the honeymoon! - and that was a nice site.

• If you do go to Tintagel you MUST visit Granny Wobblys fudge shop - you can see the fudge being made and buy from a large range of flavours - absolutely the best fudge I have ever tasted.
  (for those of you that aren't going to Cornwall they do mail order and gifts - which makes a nice change to sending flowers)

• HIya !! you will love cornwall. We spent a week down there in May in the rain and it was beautiful.
  If you are a tesco clubcard collector then Flambards is a good day out which you can use deals on. www.flambards.co.uk but by far the most fun we had was here https://www.orcasea-faris.co.uk/html/sea_safaris.htm
  It cost us Ј120 for a 2 hour trip but you see so much more of cornwall than you could on land and its a fantastic and exciting boat trip. Not your usual cruise. The skipper and staff are wonderful and great with kids. We only saw a seal when were out but it was so much fun we didnt care.
  St Ives is also worth a visit, so quaint and Oh, dont forget Port Isaac (we popped in on the way home) Location to the filming of Doc Martin its %100 beautiful and so typically cornish.
  Enjoy the roskilly and kelly ice cream and dont forget to scoff some cornish pasties....YUMM
  I hope the traffic is kind to you in August, the A30 can get a bit bunged up. Prepare for some traffic jams if you have kids just in case.

  Its really handy for Newquay and Padstow but its not in a really busy location (although you would have to put up with planes going in and out of the airport ).
  There are some lovely walks nearby that lead to the coast (only takes about 15 mins to walk to the coast line).
  Jamie Oliver's new '15' resturant is nearby so it may be busier than normal. I am going to camp there in 2 weeks time so will find out if the resturant has affected my favorite place.
• ive just been speaking to OH, and he quite likes the idea of going back to beverly park (near paignton) where he used to go on camping holidays as a child.
  £24.50 a night for a TENT PITCH!
• Par Sands Caravan/Camping Park in Par near St Austell is lovely. Really close to Eden Project if you were looking to go (short bus ride away). Also just down the road from the village I used to live in called Fowey. Home of Richard + Judy, Gloria Hunniford and also Daphne Du Maurier and inspiration for some of her books. But also just a great seaside village with kickass fresh food (and pasties of course) and ace local knick-knacky shops and pubs. Absolutely beautiful place, god you're making me want to go home now!!!

• Dont forget to check out "The Secret Gardens of Heligan". We had a wonderful day there a while ago. Some lovely walks through the gardens , jungle to name but one, you may need to take a bite with you and a drink if you stop along the way for 5 mins. A camera is a must.
  Has a lovely cafe and an organic shop on site mmmmmmm lovely day was had by all.

• depending on when your going you could see one of the eden sessions, I think theres a few tickets left for some of them. I went last year, the concerts at night and the place looks beautiful! (plus with the concert tixs you got free entry to eden before the concert or the day after).
  As you are going to eden get there early, as most people didnt arrive till about 12, so it was quite peaceful in the morning.

• Oh, and what about seeing a play at the Minack. Even if the play's rubbish, the scenery is brilliant. It's traditional to take a picnic for the interval.

  We always stay here have done for the last 4 years.
  Really nice and central. Indoor and outdoor pool plus a manor house with entertainment in the evenings
