A question about : Highway Surface Water
The environment agency has at some point installed two pipes that divert spring water and surface water from one side of a lane to my side and opened a culvert under my stone hedge to discharge the water onto my land and I have had to dig ditches to channel the water to the bottom of my property where it then goes into a sewer of some sort under the main road. It's a dreadful worry as the silt that is in the water has on two occasions blocked my ditches and started to flood the garden. In addition Highways (I assume) have cleared around the pipes and culvert and I am now receiving all the run off from the side of the lane that borders my property along with the stuff from the other side. I am so worried about flooding ( I live in Cornwall ) but the EA tell me it's just tough they can put whatever water they want onto my land and it is my responsibility to get it to the drain at the front of my property and that I shouldn't mention flooding as it could cause me 'problems'. Does this sound right I'm a female on my own and don't know if they are just bullying me. I tried to just slow the flow of water today but some kind soul has moved the stones I put in place - thanks for any advice.
