A question about : High Chair

Hi there,

I am wondering if someone could please advice on buying a high chair for my 6 month old daughter, I did some research and there are loads of them ..

Thanks,

Best answers:

  • We have a Cosatto Noodle, very sturdy and good quality. Cosatto also do a four-year warranty on all products for good peace of mind in case it breaks.
However, if I was doing it all again I'd buy the Ј12 IKEA Antilop high chair, with the tray and inflatable insert if required (inflatable insert gives the child more support if they can't quite sit straight on their own yet). Easy to clean, decent sized tray and fab value for money.
  • The ikea one is very good value. Mothercare do a similar one for Ј19.99 which comes in different colours which are lovely.
We got a bargain from Smyths toys. We'd seen the Bright Stars ingenuity high chair for Ј60 in Mothercare yet paid Ј30 in Smyths. It folds up has a tray that has a removable tray for easy cleaning and also swings out so you can remove your baby easily. It's a lot bigger than the ikea one so if space isn't a problem it's ideal. We love it
    Happy hunting
  • Without a doubt in my opinion, the Ikea Antilop is one of the best you can get (especially when you take cost into account).
  • by the time I add up the costs for ikea high chair, tray and insert it's Ј22 odd .. I could get the following Red kite one for Ј27 and I have some vouchers that I could use ..
any thoughts if this will be ok? thanks

  • Go for one with as few crevices and fiddly bits for food to get stuck in as you can get away with. We had to go for a very supportive one because of our eldest being premature and not able to sit without support at weaning time (not getting into the guidelines for weaning prem babies before anyone starts) and it's a pain in the backside when it comes to keeping it clean as food gets caught all over the place... not what I would have picked if life had gone to nice neat full-term plan but it's something it's not worth replacing now for the time we'll be using it.
Also worth considering getting a booster cushion thing to convert a normal dining chair into something higher and more escape proof when they get a little bit bigger... plus much more portable for going to stay at grandma's or whatever (they're under the Ј20 mark new - or seem to pop up second hand for under a tenner fairly often) - our eldest now uses that, coupled with one of those wipe clean tablecloths on the dining table at 18 months so her little sister can have the highchair and in the next few months I plan on getting another of those and getting rid of the damned highchair for good!
https://www.mothercare.com/Baby-Polar...efault,pd.html is the booster seat we've got - but they're all much of a muchness on that front unless you have really oddly designed dining chairs.
  • Definitely the Ikea one. I had a Fisher Price highchair with my first. Huge, even when folded. Very supportive but food got stuck everywhere would always take ages to clean.
My mum bought one for when we were at her house, it sloped backwards like the red kite one...my son found it hard to sit in it for quite a while, always slouched back, we had to prop him forwards with folded tea towels.
I got rid of the Fisher Price one and bought the Ikea one when my youngest was born. Didn't both with the insert, folded a tea towel and put it behind his back to help him at first. It was so much easier to clean, I wish I'd had it with my first.
  • Another vote for the Antilop, stores very easily and LO always looked happy in his. I popped a small cushion behind him, didn't even know you could get an insert!
  • I also vote for the ikea one.
  • We got this one for DS1:

It folds in half nicely and fits in our boot, so we can take it with us if we go to visit someone who doesn't have a high chair handy. We've been using it for 2 years now and it's still going strong and is easy to clean.
  • I have the Cosatto 3sixti and I do love it however If I was buying again I'd buy the Stokke Trip Trap.
We are using the Ikea one atm at my parents and tbh I think my toddler could tip it easily. He is boisterous though.
  • We had a cosatto one given to us and it was cr@.p.
Bought this one instead. Brilliant. Easy to clean, nowhere for bits to hide. DD (3) is now using it as a chair at the table.

We had one of these for when out and about.

  • I love the Stokke Trip Trap, but we currently have the Cosatto Noodle. Does the job and also comes with a 4 year guarantee.
  • ikea, every time. We also have a tripp trapp, which was a gift, but I loved the ikea one - had one at each grandparents house and one as a spare at ours for guests. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to take apart and store, easy to transport, and an excellent upright position for baby.
  • I had 2 x ikea ones (twins). They stack without the trays on qand you can pull the legs off to put them in the car or dishwasher. We never used an inflateable pad either. I got a silicone pan stand for them to sit on so their bum didn't slide. We got one from an NCT sale for Ј3 and sold it on for the same. They are indestructable and have no crevices to hide weetabix and orange mush.
  • Another vote for the IKEA one - I had expensive cushioned ones with my first two and would never go back to that style after trying and then buying the Antilop(?) for number 3. Cheap, so easy to clean and DD is super happy in it if you remove the tray, you can pull it right up to the table so your LO can eat off the table like everyone else....I suppose that would depend on table height though??
  • Another vote for the Ikea Antilop. We had an expensive high chair bought for us when we had DD and it was a nightmare, I used to have to clean the crevices out with a toothpick, bits of food used to get everywhere. So we got the Antilop when DS was a baby and it was fab. We didn't bother with the tray because it was the right height for our kitchen table so his bowls and plates just used to go on the table.
The Antilop and also buying a washing up bowl to bathe baby in are the two things I'm most evangelistic about when it comes to buying stuff for babies!
    Jx
  • I haven't read all the replies but we have the IKEA one. It's cheap, sturdy and easy to clean. Everyone I know has one.
