A question about : Hi, Are 0300 numbers free from a BT landline?

?????????????????????????

Best answers:

  • Same rate as a regular landline starting 01 or 02.

  • Thxs.
You would think they were free as similar to 0800.
I wonder if many people are caught out?
  • 0700 numbers most certainly aren't free either (can be up to 51.062p/minute depending on the 5th, 6th and 7th digits).
  • I don't see why any number OTHER than 0800 could be assumed to be free - 0808 and 0500 are also free when dialled from a landline but if you were unaware of this then the free call would be a bonus. I think the expectation is if you make a call, it will be chargeable!
  • I don't agee. I think most people would assume an 0X00 format number is free.
  • The scammers dumping their 0700 CLIs on you will love you!
No, don't tell me, you think they're mobile numbers so you call them back from your mobile out of you 'free' minutes.
  • Apart from the most commonly used freephone numbers (0500, 0800 and 0808), 00800 (international freephone) and a variety of others are also free* to call:
999, 111, 112, 116xxx, 07600xxxxxx, 076232xxxxx, 076593xxxxx, 076596xxxxx, 076599xxxxx, 118399 and 118712 (some of these are inactive or have no active numbers but they are designated as 'No fee' numbers or number groups).
    * From landlines and some mobile networks (999 and 112 are, of course, free from all landlines and mobile networks).
  • Thanks.....
  • The reason for 03 numbers is that they have run out of 01 and 02 numbers, so they are charged at the going rate. I get all geograhical , 0845 & 0870 numbers free (up to 59 minutes, hang up and dial again) by paying BT a amall monthly premium. Well worth it as far a I'm concerned.
  • Hi
Why have most companies canged to using generic numbers rather than using the geographical numbers they always used to?
  • i havent actually seen an answer i'm on orange mobile i just wnated to know if they are chargeable or if they come out of my mins? i called orange and they said it would be 25p a min and do not come out of mins, but yet other places say it does come out of mins? b the way the person couldn't find anything in her literature and had to consult with someone else so i aint sure about the info she gave me either?
  • Yes, Orange are wrong if they've told you that calls to 03xx will be charged outside your inclusive minutes. Vodafone definitely include them, I use 0330 1234 151 to call BT when there's a fault on my land line, rather than getting charged for using the 0800 equivalent.
  • 03 numbers are always charged at exactly the same rate as whatever you pay for calling 01 and 02 numbers.
If you have an inclusive allowance for calling 01 and 02 numbers, that allowance also includes calls to 03 numbers. This applies to calls made from landlines and from mobiles.
030 numbers are for government organisations, charities and health providers.
033 numbers are for businesses and other organisations.
034 numbers are reserved for the user of the matching 084 number.
037 numbers are reserved for the user of the matching 087 number.
The Consumer Rights Directive will shortly make it illegal to use 084, 087 and 09 numbers for customer service lines. Existing users of 084 and 087 numbers can simply migrate to the matching 034 or 037 number else choose a brand new 01, 02, 030, 033 or 080 number.
