A question about : help with teenage boy xmas presents.

my 14 yr old has told me he doesnt know what he wants , so he is getting surprises. just after a few ideas please for something other than dvd's cd's games .
he already has a scooter, skateboard. bike is a no go.
budget of around Ј100 but would rather get more than one thing for that.
HELP!!!

Best answers:

  • there are still 6 weeks until xmas, chances are he will think of something before the big day. ask him to have a think about it.
you don't want to buy something then have him announce he has decide what he wants in 3 or 4 weeks !
  • Some nice headphones, if he is into music. They've got all sorts of different coloured ones around now.
  • mine is 17 and i still get the 'i dunno'
so we agree that i can get the smellies, socks, pj's etc, but i do go to firebox to look for gadgets, they have a gadget box... https://www.firebox.com/product/5582/...via=top10&cat=
but loads of ideas there that might be an interest?
  • nana and grandad are getting him headphones and a grown up watch.
i am loving firebox- omg have you seen the flying monkey and those 3d t-shirts are fab. thanks for that link.
  • kindle, or dvds?
  • Game for a console? Or does he have a digital camera?
  • didnt want to get games or dvd's. he doesnt have a camera of his own, and although i think he would like one, i think it would be a novelty.
kindle?? he likes books but not sure he likes them enough. i would probably pinch it off him.
ami being a bit picky ha ha.
  • Does he have a fave band? are they performing near enough to you after christmas you could buy tickets for him and a friend to go see them? with some spending money so they can buy souvineers?
  • ooooh thats a good one. we live in the midlands so have easy access to birmingham, leicester, cov and nottingham.
    will check them out.
  • I have got mine a raspberry pi -look for official supplier though as mark ups are really high l (cheaper than amazon) .
  • You could get a very decent digital camera for that kind of money.
Is he "techie" at all? How about a (non brand) android tablet?
    What is he in to?
EDit: I just saw you would like more than one thing. You would need to give us an idea of what he likes, really.
Personally, I think "gadgets" from places like IWOOT are a waste of money. Better to get one good thing than a supposedly "funny" gift that will get used twice on xmas day then forgotten about.
PS: Even Ј50 or Ј60 would get you a decent camera for someone who's never had one. Tip: don't get hung up on the megapixel count (they don't mean anything for everyday users above 6 or 7 MP), instead focus on the optical zoom (rule of thumb: bigger the better!).
  • Concert tickets, red letter day so he can pick what he wants to do like go karting, vouchers for his fav clothes store? That way he will get double because it will be in the sale half price.
    Ipod dock?
  • Mine are getting worse, not better, trying to get DS3 to think about a 21st birthday present from his godfather.
DS2 had a Maths clock from this lot last year, DS3 may need to have a Chemistry clock soon, and if there's a computer programmer / game designer clock then that'll be for DS1
  • A few of us on the Home Bargains thread have bought these for our teens (and husbands!) as stocking fillers:
They are called 'Cuponk' and are Ј2.99 in Home Bargains. The idea is you bounce the ball in the cup, trick shots are bonuses
I watched this video and was totally sold on them so bought 2, one each for my teenage son and daughter:

Admittedly it's not a huge present, but a fantastic stocking filler.
  • Savvy Sue!! Thank you so much!
I had look at the maths clocks and now a Sheldon Cooper Moon Rock Maths Clock will be filling my 16 yr old, Big Bang Theory obsessed DS's stocking!!
    Yippee!
  • I-pod, or if he has one an i-pod docking station/speakers?
  • Does he have, or would he be interested in, other hobbies?
There are some quite cool (I think ) things you could get for that kinda money if he'd be in to them:
    Camera / video camera
    Power Kite
    Radio Controlled Car (Nitro)
    Train set
    Climbing shoes / harness
    Tablet PC
    Guitar / other instrument
    Golf clubs
    Running shoes
    Wet suit / surf board
    Cinema pass
    Mountain board
    Magic tricks
    Archery gear...
    The list goes on...
  • My DS who is only a little younger is football mad. So he would go for a football shirt or tickets for a match on that kind of budget. He also likes cinema, so a season ticket for a local cinema would please him greatly.
  • Juggling balls could be a good option, btw. DS1 learned at the start of 6th form and became extremely proficient, we have a teenage lad at church who's also expert!
If already jugglers, then clubs etc. Google Oddballs, they do a good range by mail order: glow in the dark is good.
