A question about : Help please re mobile phone calls from USA to UK

Hello, my wife and I are travelling around the deep south of the USA for two weeks arriving in Atlanta. Can anyone please advise if it's cheaper to buy a sim card and use my own phone or to purchase a cheap phone with credit loaded to send texts and make calls to the UK?

Thanks and I look for forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Adrian

  • Wifi and Skype ?
Wifi and BT smarttalk ? If you are a BT customer
Or possibly local sim card or phone
    O2 customer ? TU app
  • If either of you are on three your calls/data/texts will come out of your normal allowance as the US is one of their 'feel at home' countries. We used it in new York last year and it was fab. If you're not with three, pick up one of their 30 day sim cards before you go. If you Google it you will find a lot of people who have done that.
  • I agree with the suggestion of Three.
If you're not with them just order a free pay as you go sim. Their rates are the cheapest in the UK anyway and are the same in the USA. At 3p per minute that's dirt cheap to call the UK. If you se it up before you go you can add your debit card details to your account so easily top it up when you're out there too.

  • 3 PAYG sim with Ј15 bundle is the way to go if you need data too. We used it in California last year. We're normally with another provider, we put the 3 sims in the day before and phoned or texted people so they had the new number for when we were away. When we came back we just swapped the sims back.

  • Make sure you phone is unlocked or you can't change the sim card....
We just use free wifi and whats app.
  • Thanks very much for all the suggestions which are very helpful
