A question about : Great Factory Shops Hunt

Official insert: I've taken this thread and turned it into a Great Hunt. If you spot a factory shop please give as much detail as possible

I was reading one of the posts involving buying food stuff from a factory shop and I wondered how you find out what factories have shops open to the public? I live quite near a chocolate factory that has a shop but didn't know it was there for about 14 years! How do you find them? Does anyone know of any cheap food outlets in Norfolk - I'm happy to buy bulk!!

Best answers:

  • my local biscuit factory has a staff shop, but nevber been able to find anything else. even the rock factories here only sell to the staff cheap. you sound lucky halloween queen.
  • Yes - its great value - 10 walnut whips for Ј1.50 = cheap easter eggs and advent calenders - plus they supply marks and sparks so good quality stuff- especially when its not seconds but the order is cancelled or too much is made. Get biscuits and cooking ingredients too, plus a whole box of small flakes for a couple of pounds. I just need a savoury factory outlet! Or do I!!!??
  • Please can I come & live with you ;D ??? :
  • possibly. we do ahave a crisp factory not far from here, tempted now to see if they have factory shop.
  • Lol, lillibet!! Rent paid in chocolate please!!
Go for it 160, doesn't hurt to ask!!
  • have just found them on the web, they have on but its only open frid 9-12, so thinkmay have to go and pay a visit. also brewery near my friends has a staff shop, and her hubby works there, have just emailed her, and she is getting me some beer for xmas. glad you started this thread. has saved me money already. ;D
  • Beer and crisps - blimey - - if you have a party I'll bring the chocs!! ;D
  • now that may be a plan for the old style meet. :-* ;D
  • You have inspired me to find local factories and email them to ask if they have shops open to the public! I've asked sugar and crisps so far! Very healthy!
  • We've got Webb Ivory, Tutbury Crystal, Georgian Crystal all with open-to-public shops. We have Nestle as well but don't think they open to public. Biscuit factory not far away used to open to public but not now (pity as they sold McVities, Walkers crisps etc!) ;D
  • Thanks - I have a few leads on some fresh veg - so at least something to balance the chocolate! I'm surfing the web to try and find local food producers etc - I've emailed a few - most of them say no to being open to the public but maybe I'll get lucky!
  • There is a guide to factory shops and many dealing with specific areas only. I used to have an older edition, and it was very useful. Found this one on Amazon but there are probably others too.

  • thanks for that, thats a great link.
  • HERE
a list of factory shops here, mostly clothes I think
    Boardguide comment: Link shortened
  • Several no's at the moment - so no better off but no worse! Might have time to check one place out tomorrow. One has a shop but only for staff, but I don't know anyone there!
  • i not been able to find anymore either. but will keep trying.
  • There's loads in Leicester, lots of clothing, im sure the tourist office even has a special leaflet about them. Because of a lot of food manufacturers locally, amazingly cheap stuff turns up on the market - sweets, cakes, biscuits (including the luxury ones) pies, sausage rolls...Also stilton is cheap here if you really must eat that sort of thing :-X (because its local) The butchers David Cheshires sells overruns of M&S/asda &other supermarkets - i once had a huge tray of venison sausages for 2 quid! Often get 5 'ready to roast in the tin' joints of meat for FIVE POUNDS!!! Things like gammon, beef, turkey, and some of the nicest pork ive had. Served it to guests and they were impressed, daren't tell them how cheap it was
    'ave it!
  • Good for you! There are lots of foods made in Norfolk but it seems mos of them don't have a factory shop or if they do its for staff only. :'(
Still I'm gonna keep trying and see if I can supplement my diet on more than chocs!
