A question about : Got Ripped off by We Buy Any Car

Dear All,
I have very bad experience,
Price offered on line was acceptable (Ј3,475) but when got to interview the reduction applied was far too high (Ј2,800). Left the place and drove home to get a phone call offering more, said would think about it then 5 minutes later got another call offering Ј29,60 if I got a new Tyre. Sorted that and went back to find offer had reduced by Ј180. Felt like was being ripped off and took 40 minutes of discussion before finally getting back to price offered on phone. They called me to reduce more i would say.

Not impressed with service and felt like trying to scare people to lowest price possible.
If you looking to sell your car or want to buy please be careful by choosing your company, to whom you're going to sell.

Best answers:

  • You must decscribe the car totally as it is not through rose tinted glasses. Only then will this service work.
  • How did you get ripped off? You were either happy with the price, or you didn't sell the car to them, right?
  • They are always going to try and drive the price down, it's where they make money.
Offering you an extra Ј160 to fit a tyre seems particularly odd - if they were to even bother doing it they'd just do it themselves for a trade rate on the cheapest one they could find, which will be a fraction of Ј160 unless you've got 22" wheels or something crazy.
  • Company tries to save money shocker. Jeeeez.
  • It's called "chipping".
Agents are told to maximise profits by "chipping" away at the initial price offered. Even though you may have fairly described your car they will slate any faults/marks/blemishes and quote retail prices (which they won't pay) to fix them.
On the other hand I have heard to people who have used them where the agent was very fair and there was no chipping against the initial price.
