  • I was going to take it but I didn't know what to put.
But yes Good Luck everyone. Theres always McDonalds
  • Hope all goes well for everyone.
  • I've been made redundant once so far (4 years ago) and even though at the time it is very stressful and traumatic, its very important to try to stay as positive as possible. There is light at the end of the tunnel, lets hope anyone entering the tunnel finds that its only a short journey until they reach the other side.
    Good luck all...
  • Having experienced redundancy more than once in our household, can I make a suggestion to everybody who is currently working but fears redundancy, to sit down and produce an updated CV now. Not only is it an important tool to have in your job search, it will also help to remind you of the jobs you have done previously, the skills you have acquired in the process and give you the self confidence to realise that you are not worthless and have something valuable to offer a prospective employer.
Also an invaluable book to read is "What Colour is Your Parachute?" (borrow it free from your local library) It's a practical manual for job seekers and career changers, and is full of useful advice, whether you're looking for another job in the same skill area, or thinking of setting up on your own for the first time. It will also help you understand how the skills you currently have can be transferred to other sectors, an important aspect to understand in times of high unemployment.
  • I was made redundant last Tuesday. I had a job interview today, for a temporary job for 10 weeks, which was for an admin role. I arrived and was completely grilled! The agancy called me later, and told me I didn't get the job.
It's pretty pap to be honest, there aren't many jobs around here, plus given I worked in finance and mortgages for the last 6 years, I'm finding it hard to even be considered for roles outside of finance.
Ahh well! Keep plodding on I guess!
  • Hi all

  • I have experienced redundancy 3 times now and the latest was end Sept 2008. I started going for job interviews in July and was advised that I was successful for a job begin of October but due to paperwork being processed did not start work until 26th November. Be prepared as you can, sign up for js allowance and it will probably take a wee while before you are successful in getting a job due to current situation - good luck.
  • As a long-term reader of this forum who is now facing redundancy after 29 years with one employer since leaving school, I am very pleased to see the creation of this section of the forum.
My redundancy is not yet confirmed, but is almost certain (have been on the 'at risk' list since the middle of December and am just waiting for the company to confirm who is going from where).
At least I will benefit from a 3-month notice period plus a reasonable amount of redundancy pay. On the down-side it is also now possible my OH will also find herself redundant before me.
So, my best wishes to all who find themselves in a similar situation (or worse), and my thanks to whoever has got this part of the forum off the ground.
I have so many questions and worries in my head at the moment.
