A question about : Glasses....anyone buy from Selectspecs or eyewearcentre?

I'm looking to buy some glasses and I found the models I liked in www.selectspecs.com and www.eyewearcentre.com

I done a bit of research and it seems that SelectSpecs is based in Kent whereas EyewearCentre (also known as Giarre) is based in Italy. Both offer cheap/free delivery.

Has anyone had any experience with them? How are their build? - is it well made? and outta interest, does it include the original case?

For approximately the same price, Eyewearcentre offers super thin lense (refractive index = 1.67!) whereas with SelectSpecs, it's 1.60 (which is still v good) - hence why I am tending towards Eyewearcentre/Giarre. Would love to hear your experiences about them title=Smile

  • Hi
I just bought a pair from here
    https://www.vision2you.co.uk/
fab and trendy Gucci and they cost me Ј110 WITH the lenses. I looked at the same frames on the two websites you mentioned and they were Ј30 - Ј40 more expensive. Take a look, they were brilliant and kept me informed all the way through.
    Good Luck
  • My wife and I had a pair each from selectspecs the glasses are very well made and excellent value.I had rimless titanium Ј41.95 my wifes are semi rimless Ј28.95,I was a little unsure about filling the online prescription in so we rang them they took our number and called back later. The optician could not have been more helpful the gasses arrived after around 7 working days and are excellent.Hope this helps.
  • I have no connection with this Company but I bought some half frimmed specs from them at quarter of the price than in the shops. The website is: www.specky4eyes.co.uk. They have a service where if you like the frames but arent sure they'll suit, will deliver them to you to try first
  • I can highly reccomend selectspecs.com
A month ago I ordered some prescription sunglasses from them for £19.46 (total cost inc delivery). I was so impressed that 10 days ago I ordered some rimless glasses for £35.94 (again total cost!). The rimless pair arrived today and they're great.
The service is excellent, both pairs of glasses have been amazing quality for the price, people would easily believe I'd paid at least £100 extra for each, especially the rimless pair.
  • Can you claim back the cost of these glasses from a HSA plan? Particularly Vision2you?
  • Avoid SelectSpecs like the plague. Six weeks ago i order a very simple set of glasses. I am still waiting for them to arrive. Apparently they were recently posted from HONG KONG, and have to wait another 20 days!!
If you order, don’t bet on getting your glasses!
  • ok, i thought selectspec.com seemed a really good deal, and they had the glasses I wanted, so i put in an order at the beginning of this week. however, I got an email the following day saying the glasses i wanted were discontinued, so i emailed back and asked them to refund my money as it was just those particular glasses i wanted. they replied and said they would process the money and it would be in my account in 4-5 days. i've since read a few reviews saying they're really really bad, you either never get the glasses or they dont give you your money back. what can i do?? help please, as they were Ј100!
  • ...I got my glasses from them about a year ago. I have a high degree of astigmatism and some myopia, and toric contact lenses (especially continuous wear) work well for me, but sometimes my eyes need a bit of a rest. I got some basic level specs which are close to my prescription - getting a perfect match would have cost more. But the specs I got are perfectly acceptable, and I wear them at work all the time (I'm an engineer in IT support and spend a lot of time staring at VDUs). They're not completely style free either, and cost GBP8 delivered! Took about three weeks to arrive, but you can't beat that value. My partner got some more expensive half-rims with a better fit for his prescription (he's severely myopic and slightly astigmatic, the other way round to me) for about GBP30. Fantastic value and perfectly acceptable products and results - as long as you're not in a hurry.
  • That's funny, apart from all the complaints listed on the MSE boards I've actually spoken to two different people on consumer forums who claimed to have never received their glasses from your company after paying for them. Can you just confirm to everyone that you have ironed these problems out now or did they even exist in the first place?
  • Dear moneysavers,
    UPDATE:
The local Boots opticians discovered that the PD (pupillar distance) value is set incorrectly on the glasses received from SelectSpecs. I have faxed them a letter just now.
    ================================================== ===================================
I placed an order with SelectSpecs on July 31 and it arrived on August 9 - from Hong Kong! I was quite impressed by that. So delivery is not really an issue. Also they have a tool on their site which shows which stage the process is in.
I was ordering the glasses for my wife and she requires quite thick lenses as her prescription is -5. It does not seem that she will be able to use the glasses made because they make her dizzy in seconds. I will have to take them to my local optician for them to give a second opinion.
I hoping that SelectSpecs can make things right in this situation. I will let everyone know if this was a happy or a tearful ending.
  • So I'm taking it that Select Specs is not in Margate, Kent as stated on their website
The website lists their Head Office address as:
    SelectSpecs.com UK
    PO Box 102
    Margate
    Kent, UK
    CT9 1YU.
I'm just about to send my own frames off to have the lenses fitted - not sure what to do now.
  • ..I think the PO box says it all!
Edit: in case you're interested, someone's just posted a voucher code for reglazing glasses in the other forum: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....php?t=2652413
  • Hi guys,
Our head office is in Westgate on Sea, near Margate and we have 2 labs in Hong Kong for our budget ranges. All designer items and reglazed are glazed locally. We realise we only list a PO Box address at the moment as our head office address but we're in discussions to change this to our 'physical' address at the moment.
joaniemerc, when you place your order for a reglaze you will also be given our physical address if you want to send your item to us by a courier, we would then process and glaze your item locally.
punksluck, if an item goes missing in the postal system and the customer does not receive their order, we ask customers to contact us and we will dispatch a replacement. All paid for orders are always dispatched upon completion so we're not sure of the reasons behind why these customers are complaining on consumer forums.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    James
    SelectSpecs.com
  • Thanks for the clarification, James.
I will post my frames off to you.
  • I have ordered two pairs of prescription glasses on two separate occassions recently from Selectspecs and both orders arrived from Hong Kong within two weeks with no problems.
  • I have had nothign but trouble with Selectspecs.com. I think they are a bunch of con artists. My glasses took a month to arrive (even though they take payment instantly) and when I complained they replied once and ignored emails after that. Once I had finally received them they were not what I expected. I paid for them to be thinned and they were not thinned at all, the lenses were so thick it was unbelieveble! But there is no number to call so I emailed them and yet again they have ignored me! I am having to go through my credit card company and claim the money back that way. I would advise anyone against using them! They should be shut down!
