A question about : Glasgow Driving Lessons

Can anyone recommend a cheap driving school/instructor in Glasgow, preferably Southside area?

On a side note, would you say it is better to learn in an intensive block or over a longer time - a weekly hour or so?

Thanks in advance! title=Smile

  • I learned with a DRM instructor, really couldn't fault them as a school as I had a problem with the first instructor I had (she didn't turn up on more than one occasion, and was unable to get hold of her mobile!) and they swapped me over to another instructor no problem! Their website is https://www.drmdrivertraining.co.uk
  • It all depends on how you learn but I think intensive courses would overwhelm most people and it's a lot of money to shell out in one go. I liked 1 hour lessons twice a week to keep the practice in but without haviing to be behind the wheel for ages but that was a personal preference. As for the cost most instructors are about Ј20 an hour. I learnt with focus on tuition (carmyle) and paid for a block of ten at a time which works out cheaper. But driving's just one of those things you just have to learn!
  • My friend Ash just passed with One L of a Driver in Glasgow, from what i've heard it's a small quite personal driving outfit but they have good pass record and the rates aren't bad. I think they cover the whole of glasgow including the south side so you should defo check em out, their site is onelofadriver.co.uk
  • I passed with Alan Farmer, who used to be with DRM and has now gone independent. He's really nice, got a reasonably new Skoda.
2 hour lessons I think are slightly better than 1 hour ones. His phone number is here.
  • I passed on an intensive course with Simon Bell - I think it's www.simonbellmini.co.uk. If you're a student, he offers the first 5 lessons for Ј75 according to my snapfax. I couldn't recommend him more highly, both myself and subsequently my friend passed first time with him.
I found doing a 30 hour intensive course + 2 hour car hire for the test + practical test worked out as a bargain, and by the end of the week I was so confident the test was a breeze. But, each to their own!
  • I learned with a BSM guy who sourced his own people from his website and charged Ј4/hr less than the BSM rate. Lessons were very good the car was a new Corsa which I found very easy to get going in. Passed first time at shieldhall.
    The website was called 'Drivinglessonsforyou'.
  • hi.my name is fiona.i passed last year with M&M Driving instructor.i am online most of time shopping & stuff.i just came across these comments online about the driving instructors. Yeah i have good experiance with this instructor.i found this guy on google and it was quite cheap so thought i might give it a bash.i called them and i got a booking next week about 10 days later.that was a long time for me but i thought let me try with them. i have taking lessons with all the big companies BSM,Red ,a couple of lessons with aa and i failed 8 times my practical test. i start my lessons again like about a year after i took lessons and failed so many time. my theory expired so i set again and as soon i passed theory i got a guy from Mm. to be honest that young guy was very cheap, very experianced,a good freindly man and very busy.i felt very confident with him. i told him i failed 8 time,my driving is fine but i got nervouse when i am in test and i do silly mistakes. he gave me alot of confidence, took me on the test routes couple of time.i could do reversing manvours but couldn't do Reverse corners, becouse most of my instructors told me to follow the Kerb, while he stoped me at one point and turn that much, didn't remember how much was it.but anyway i don't do corners in my car. i took about a couple of lessons with him and i got a date for test booked. that was to my Good luck with this guy or some i passed first time with him.thank to this guy i mean i could drive safely but i didn't know how to pass.cheers
  • my son went with topgear after reading some reviews i pitched in with some private practice as advised by their instructor douglas. if you can get some private practise along with standard lessons you will do ok. my son past his test with only two minor faults.
  • I would always learn on a weekly basic as I do think your skills have to be built up over time.
  • I would recommend Accelerate Driving Tuition ! I learned how to drive with them and the instructors were very professional and reasonably priced - i done a mixture of blocks and single lessons. They also provide driving lessons in Glasgow Southside so are perfect for your needs!
    Best of luck !
