A question about : Freezing Mobile Phone Contracts!

Hi there, i tried the search first.

I am going in tour to Kenya for 8 months, and I was wondering if anyone knows if I can freeze my mobile phone contract.

I called EE they said that I can't as it was an iPhone 5 and I can use it there. However If was still with orange I could have froze it.

But I thought that because I was in the armed forced I could do that.

Any one got any advice or links. So could call them back. I don't wanna buy there over priced bundles on top of my contract.

Thanks

Iain

Best answers:

  • Go up the food chain.
  • Freezing of mobile contracts is a new (ish) thing certainly 4 years ago they company wouldnt entertain the idea.
Sadly the reallity is "when you signed the contract, you knew there was a good chance of you being overseas for a period, therefore as the contract is for X months, then you have to honor the X month contract"
If you do get them to freeze it, all well and good, but its more of a goodwill gester than a given!
    Good luck!
  • They might have considered it for a Herrick deployment but BATUK or BPST are not classed as operational deployments
  • Froze mine last year for the Falklands (equally not as operational as Herrick). I was with T-mobile (now EE).
As has been stated, go higher up the food chain, these companies will not be seen to stitch the Forces, so a Freeze (not a get out) will be accepted. For them it is not worth the bad publicity on the front page of the Sun, just for freezing a few Forces accounts.
  • My Son is with Orange and is posted to Germany - all they would do was reduce some of his payment, they would not freeze the contract. he has justbeen to Kenya for 6 weeks, he bought a local phone out there for trip as the calls were way cheaper!!
  • My OH is serving in Afghan and Orange allow you to freeze your contract for up to 6 months with no charges.
  • o2 froze my husbands account while in Afghan, opened it while he was home on R&R and froze it again when he returned to Afghan
  • We were posted to cyprus 2011-2013. Vodafone froze my hubby's (dependent) contract for the entire duration of our time out there. It was a bit of a faff as some customer reps didn't know this could be done and others were very clued up.
