A question about : Free food events at Tesco

Anybody been to the free food event evenings at Tesco? I've just booked one, mainly for the free goody bag but should be interesting as well. Our local store is doing bread, I don't know if all stores are doing the same.

Is this the right board for this or freebies board?

Best answers:

  • Awww, there's not one near me, That a damn shame.
    Tell us how it is!
  • No, me neither, nearest is 35 miles away, will wait for more locations, thanks anyway.
  • I was at one for soft fruit, mainly strawberries. There was a information session about Tesco's soft fruits. There were lots of samples, eg scones with clotted cream and strawberries, blueberry pancakes, washed sown with a choice of drinks. Then we had a fab goody bag with about Ј20 of content to take away. Fab!
  • Humph, my nearest is 51 miles away.
  • How do you find out the subject of the food evening? No point in me going to a bread one as I can't eat it.
  • The website says
'Come and explore our delicious range of breads and pastries; from where we source our ingredients to how our bakers craft the different varieties we sell.'
  • Thank you, Soba - I just followed your link and signed up to our local one tonight
  • I too am 30 odd miles away from one,Maybe they idea will spread to other branches
  • trying to check out but the website keeps crashing. So much for unlimited broadband...
  • Made it to Tesco's free food event in Dundee last night - had to change from last week as OH was having a bad few days.
Have to say I was quite impressed - I am very p*ssed off with Tesco at the mo' as they messed up my last online order in a big way and took way too long to sort their mistake - anyway long story. But I signed up cos I do like something for nothing
It took a couple of hours - bit of an unnecessary spiel by the store manager to begin with, then some info about how they make their different bread products. A tour of the bakery - which I quite enjoyed - it's a push-button-machine-driven set-up, not so much 'traditional' baker skills. The bakery manager was an enthusiastic guy, but not hard-line corporate IYKWIM. It was interesting to see what they make from scratch and what they cook from frozen.
good samples of a few of their different breads, some cakes, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Freebie bag had all the ingredients and the recipe for a bread and butter pudding - so brioche rolls, butter, eggs, sugar, cornflour, raspberries, almond or rice milk and jam. also a camembert cheese, carton of soup, fougasse bread and a pretzel.
My suspicious head wonders what they're up too - the official line is that they are trying to get back to basics - selling food. They wanted clubcard numbers on feedback - further customer analysis? But I'd go again - next one is meant to be on finest food - so we're not having our tea before we go!
Anyone got any baking recipes for using up two boxes of cornflour?
  • Nearest one to me is 35 miles away as the seagull flies
  • Nearest to me is 25 miles away
  • I didn't find one near to me but saw my dad's local one is doing one so have emailed him the link,. thanks!
  • 27 miles to my nearest one.
  • Anyone else going to the Brighouse one on the 26th?
  • Did each person get a goody bag, you AND guest??
  • the one we went to, we both got a goody bag (me and my guest), though we didn't get the brioche or the fougasse bread - got a chocolate caramel tart, coconut macaroon and tear and share sweet bread instead.
  • Husband and I went to one last night - enjoyed it very much and most impressed with the goodie bags. We got similar to others and had one each. One lady even asked if she could have one for her sister and they obliged! There were a couple of children there and they were given packs of donuts which was nice.
Hope to get to the the next one, especially if it on Finest Food!
