A question about : Free Completely Legal Music To Download

Downloading music on the net is a big thing. Personally, I think that the big music companies are overcharging us so I don't use them. There are thousands of MP3s out there for free if you know where to look. You may not find the latest chart releases, but there is such a large choice for free out there it will be possible to find something to your taste. All of the following sites are completely legal and are not anything to do with P2P or anything like that.

https://www.vitaminic.co.uk/main Thousands of free tracks from more than 20,000 artists and 600 labels available. (Edit 23/12/2005 This site looks like it is going through a revamp at the moment)

https://www.download.com I've been using this site for years now, and only just discovered they offer 1000s of free tracks to download. Click the music button on the left.

https://www.peoplesound.com/ Tens of thousands of free downloads available on this site.

https://efolkmusic.org/ As the site name suggests. Loads of folk music on this site for free.

If you are interested in a particular artist/band. It is also worth having a look at their fan site. Sometimes the band/artist will offer one or two tracks for free download.

  • I'm sorry acid. I posted this thread as a completely legal way of downloading music. All the sites I posted offer music for free legally.
You've posted two methods of filesharing, which is against the rules on this site.
I've reported your post to abuse.
  • Most of us know where to get things illegal but don't share this information as it's against the rules. There always one that wants to spoil the thread because this thread is about legal downloading of music nothing more. Thanks to Rex for thread.

  • https://www.archive.org/ has some free music, but I've found it most useful for it's collection of free videos. There's all sorts, from independant political documentaries to 1950s informational videos about 'a disease, a disease called... homosexuality'. There is also a bunch of copyright free texts - in short, it's a great resource for a variaty of free media
  • Martin has started a Great "Cheapest Legal Downloads" hunt.
  • As we are on the subject of free legal mp3's, I would just like to add a site called soundclick.com This site offers free legal mp3's to download or listen to directly on their site. The site is made up mainly of unsigned artists and songwriters, and it gives them a chance to get their music heard by a worlwide audience, and hopefully build a fan base for their music. Most of the music is of a very high standard, and just as good as some of the stuff already being played on the radio.
As an amateur songwriter I have a few songs already on this website, and they are available for anyone to listen to or download completley free of charge.
All you have to do is register as listener, which again is free. None of your details are used except to login, and they never contact you or pass your details on.
The following links will take you to the site and direct to my page.
    www.soundclick.com/leeinchley
    www.soundclick.com
Have a listen and see what you think. Feel free to leave me any feedback on my songs, and download them if you want to FREE OF CHARGE of course.
  • Looks like they are doing a complete site revamp at the moment (that's the message I got when I just tried the link). Maybe try them in a week or so, see if they've finished their work.
