A question about : Fraudulent charges on Egg card

Hi there,

I've just reviewed my Egg statements online and I know, very stupidly, as I haven't done that in a while (forgot my passwords....and just found notes on what they are so tried them....) I have found many transactions ranging from couple of pounds up to Ј60 & Ј80 in the recent week. I'm 100% sure that I haven't done them as I haven't used this card for anything else apart from 3-4 online payments.....so have called the bank immediately but was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and if yes, how did you manage resolve it? I'm feeling incredibly stupid now for not checking my balance weekly but as there was such a small amount on the card and I had a direct debit set up to pay it off it never occured to me to check it.....Now it seemes I've been paying for someone else's 'whatever' and that someone else was getting worse and worse as the charges has increased horrendously....

Some of the charges appear as:

WCSN.COM 866-446-8254
PAYPAL *MYEURO 35314369001 LU
PAYPAL *BWINCOMINTE 35314369001 GB
WCSN.COM 866-446-8254 NY
PAYPAL *CHANNGAIFUN 35314369001 GB
PAYPAL *JBDAVIS02 35314369001 GB

...and variations on these....

Am grateful for any comments (please don't slate me....am feeling awful already).

Many thanks.

M

  • You can put a 001 infront of those reference numbers, ie 001 866-446-8254.
Looks like a US number - maybe best to phone it from work, and from someone else's extension. Remember the 5 hour time difference.
Egg will ask you to make efforts to contact them yourself, then they'll be able to step in. If you want them to intervene you need to make it clear that all efforts to contact them have been tried with no result, and that you're basically reporting it as credit card fraud.
I had something similiar on a much smaller scale, ended up speaking to Egg and cancelling the card and getting a new one with a new account sent to me, was only a couple of $ so I didn't make too much effort to chase a refund (just incase I subbed to something when drunk that I didn't remember!).
  • i just got the same problem with my 3V card... the transaction number is the exact same (PAYPAL 35314369001 GB) only with the paypal variation.... whoever it is only took $1 though, but i dont have much left on it anyway....
  • Egg are normally very good (or at least the have been with me in the past). They've even helped me out when they were under no obligation to. I must say that I'm surprised they haven't contacted you. I recently stopped using my Egg Money card for three months (was getting my 4% cashback on Capital One) and as soon as I started using it again I got a call from Egg to verify the transactions.
Give them a call (if you haven't done so) and ask them what they advise. There is a time limit on them being able to help (or so they told me) so the sooner you contact them the better.
And if you haven't supplied them with your mobile number, do so. I don't get any marketing calls from them, but it means they can contact you as soon as they spot something unusual on your account.
  • These 1.5 or 1 charges from PayPal are charges that you have incurred because you were asked to validate the credit card you have registered in PayPal. PayPal will refund the charge once you log into your PayPal account and in the credit card section enter the "validation code" (these are the 4 digits marked on the PayPal charge) . This is the process PayPal uses to confirm that the credit card you have registered is valid.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers ,
    Ed
  • Hi i have just looked at my bank statement and i have hametaz 35314369001 which is the same format as yours - i am not sure what to do about is - do i ring paypal?? i had a bit go missing out of my account!! x
  • Apologies for bumping this thread but I found a charge for $1 with a transaction number of 35314369001 LU.
The transaction appeared on my 3V card when I tried to buy something via PayPal and was for Ј0.50 ($1).
After a couple of weeks, the charge was refunded so I think this may be something that PayPal does in order to "qualify" the card.
It's annoying because I tend to clear my 3V cards when they are down to about Ј3 by paying myself via PayPal - but the transactions fail because PayPal insists on taking this charge whenever I try to pay...
My advice would be to wait a couple of weeks and you will probably see the "35314369001 LU" charge refunded.
  • Hi,
I have just had the following on my bank statement as well
    VISPAYPAL *FACEBOOKIR
    35314369001
    They have taken Ј142 though!!
  • I had problems a couple of years ago and egg were really efficient in dealing with it. Turns out someone had been using my card number for online poker! Egg refunded the money and from what I can remember, passed it onto their fraud people or something. I didn't have to do anything apart from answer them honestly. Good luck.
  • If there's anything you don't recognise and are sure it's nothing to do with you or someone who may have access to your card (or a repeat payment, pre-order, etc that you may have forgotten about), then just contact Egg immediately and report these transactions.
Same goes for any credit card really.
You must do it as soon as possible to ensure your card is blocked and a new one is issued, and eliminate the possibility of getting charged for any further transactions. Once reported you can't be charged for further fraud.
  • i just checked my acount and there was a payment
    PAYPAL *MOLLYSHOUS
    35314369001
    WHICH WAS FOR Ј45.15
WHICH WAS LOADS FOR ME AS I'M ONLY 11
i've tried to find mollyshous on the internet but it doesn't exist
  • Egg has notified me that somebody has been repeatedly trying to make purchases using my card details. They have not been able to make any purchases since they do not have my mastarcard secured password.
Egg has cancelled my account and opened a new account with a new number.
  • I have just received my Vanquis Credit Card Statement and found that there are 2 transactions with the description PayPal 'CharlesKeas 35314369001 LU one for 188.98 & the other for 189.26 within a week of each other.
I've contacted Vanquis and they have blocked my card and going to send me a new one - so now I'm inconvenience because of someone taking money fraudulently.
So it would appear its not only EGG Cards..... just make sure that you all check your statements carefully.
  • Second that.... Just been checking my account online and have been debited for Ј600+ to a paypal account that I have never heard of....
Although top marks to HSBC customer services who have credited the amount back as soon as i reported it.
  • Have any of you got kids in the house? Wonder if they could be something linked to these games you see on Facebook, like Petville etc? The game itself is free, but the add-on's aren't. Caught many people out. Likewise, if you have ipod touch/iphones that the kids play with, they can easlity download chargable games.
  • Just had my bank statement to find a transaction of Ј483.16 debited and refunded 10 minutes later from my account on Nov 30 by "paypal ebuyer uk 35314369001 GB". Rang paypal who said they could tell me the transaction was carried out by a man giving a London address but are not allowed to give any further information. They advised me to cancel my bank card and change the paypal password. I rang the bank who confirmed no further transactions had been attempted and they are now issuing me with a new card, The bank were very helpful, she thought they had hacked my paypal account and luckily the payment was refused. this has made me very wary of sharing bank details on internet sites, even supposedly safe sites with the padlock.
  • I hadnt checked my banking online in 2 weeks & wen i did i noticed that there had been Ђ1200 taken over 4 transactions through paypal using the number 35314369001" BRENSENLAWL" . Contacted PAYPAL and my bank , so hopefully PAYPAL will reimburse . Had to cancel cards .
  • 35314369001 is the contact No for paypal in Ireland.
If you ever get these type of transactions. Check you paypal account.
If they are showing in there, then you paypal account has been compromised and PP will deal with it.
They are very good at this.
If they are not then contact your card provider and they will deal.
If it's you paypal account that has been compromised, then there is no need to stop the card. They do not have your card details.
If the transactions are showing in your bank account contact them and get them refunded by the bank. PSD covers this. They will then monitor for the refunds and then debit you the refunds they have given to cover the loss.
  • I just checked my account here in America and found one charge from Paypal with this number 35314369001 on 05/22/2013 for $1. Subsequent to that charge over $290 US Dollars were charged one from the UK for automotive charges, then 4 from Skype for various services. Anyone else having this problem? I read on your forum that the guy lives in London somewhere. If anyone can determine the actual guys name and address, I'll personal report him to the proper authorities. Skype is investigating and I'll be contacting my bank in the morning. This really bites to deal with this at this time.
