A question about : Flying to Australia: Do I need separate insurance for the stop over?
Can anyone tell me if travel health insurance taken from the day of departure covers me for the stop-over/flight-change destination? Or is the insurance only valid once I arrive in Australia?
I haven't booked a flight yet but I expect to stop at Kuala Lumpur airport, and it occurs to me that if I were to fall ill in Malaysia, I don't know if my health insurance for Australia would be valid, and I don't want to take any chances.
Best answers:
- Once you have booked your flights, make sure that you take out insurance straight away for your trip then you are covered if you had to cancel for any insurable reason ie redundancy, illness etc. As long as you take out a worldwide cover that includes all the destinations you are visiting, then you are covered.
- Assuming its single trip cover then have the start date as the date you leave the UK and the end date the day you land in the UK. As long as you have world wide cover exc USA (assuming your not going to the USA at all) then you'd be covered for the full trip including if your taken ill en route
