A question about : Fluid credit card

I've had the fluid card since november and I've had two default sum notice.

Both instances the last payment date was on a Sunday, I paid on a friday after 4pm and they consider this late as I need to make payment before 4pm on Friday to count within deadline.

Furthermore. They don't go by calender month, they go by some other calculation, I think 30 day/29 day period because every month the statement date creeps back 1-2 days and the due date also rolls back 1-2 days from previous month.

I make card payments manually because I can pay the minimum amount if I need to or if I have plenty of funds I can pay more. In the past I had no issues with this because I have it in memory when the payment needs to be made by. But Fluid/MBNA keep moving the dates earlier and earlier each month and it's caught me up twice.

First time it happened - the due date was 26 Dec - I made the payment on time, then on Jan I assume it would be 26th again, and I just assumed it would be 26th Jan again. WRONG. It was moved back to 25th Jan and I paid after 4pm on 23rd Jan and that was considered late as it would be processed on 26th.

Now on Feb I just paid now assuming the due date would be 25th Feb, I checked and found that it's now moved earlier to 22nd Feb!!!!!! ANOTHER SUNDAY!!

So now that I've paid on the 20th February it's not going to count.

Every other credit card they have the same day of the month without fail. Others vary a little bit and average it down to 30.5 days so it will shift 1 day but still more or less consistent. But MBNA/FLuid are deliberately conning people.

Best answers:

  • You set yourself up to fail there.
  • No.
It is you not managing your account efficiently.
They send you a statement every month you need to read it to determine the payment date and not assume when it will be.
If you are not capable of doing that then set up a DD for the minimum payment and make manual payments of of any additional amounts. That way you will not get late payment fees.
  • Make some type of diary reminder
And look at the due date on the statement.
Most credit cards have never been due on the same date each month. Maybe they go in exactly 4 or 5 week periods, or maybe they skip weekend days.
  • If you have found your assumption is inaccurate why did not you just set up a DD ??
    Quote:
  • Either get the manual payment done by the correct time. All statements tell you on the back the days they allow for manual payements to be credited on the account.
Or pay by DD. Credit card company will always want the minimum payment every month anyway. So you still pay what have to pay anyway.
The only other alternative is to transfer out what you owe to another credit card and close this problematic - to you - account down.
  • Set the minimum payment to be made by direct debit. Pay off any extra manually.
Then, if you miss your 'extra' payment by a few days then you will pay interest, but no fees and will not be in default.
  • Yet again, a company behaving outrageously by expecting customers to read their bills.
  • Surely a minimum payment DD would have prevented this?
