  • Can I add this link for BBC Gloucestershire which contains the locations of the bowsers (street water butts) in the area.
  • Sorry if it's been posted elsewhere - but this link can't appear too many times. I contacted the British Red Cross today who sent me this info
    Hi there,
Further to your recent call to the Red Cross helpline for the flooding in Gloucestershire enquiring how you might help. I wanted to advise you that today the British Red Cross launched a National Flooding Appeal to help those affected by the floods across the UK. All monies raised from the Appeal will be used to to support individuals in hardship, support community recovery activities, local appeals and community groups. We shall work in partnership with local, regional and national government and other agencies to maximise the impact of this unprecedented national appeal.
People may donate by calling 08450547200 or through our website on www.redcross.org.uk. and also https://www.redcross.org.uk/floodsappeal

  • Go to www.freecycle.org and find and join your local group. There is always second hand furniture, carpets, fridges etc available. Even bedding and clothes.
  • Insurance advice on the Association of British Insurers' website
    www.abi.org.uk
  • For details of electrical safety and flooding, please see the Electrical Safety Council's website at www.esc.org.uk There is a downloadable leaflet that will provide some useful tips.
  • Hi,
please contact the Consumer Council for Water if you have a problem and arent getting anywhere with your local water company. They are brilliant and will help you every step of the way. Here is the link www.ccwater.org.uk

  • You may find this flood guide useful, especially if you live in Gloucestershire:
    www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/floods
I'm biased as I had some involvement in putting it together! Lots of contact details and tips contained within
  • Floods, floods, floods... And a small number of cowboy firms operating within flood reinstatement works.
In my role as an independent electrical tester POST flood reinstatement work inspections on behalf of home owner(s) I have come across much that does not comply with Electrical Reg's... The insurer's who use their own contractors have a duty of care to ensure works are to Reg's, but many householders are not experts.
If a fuse repeatedly "blew" after works such would suggest all is not well.
Roof damaged and leaking? Electrics in the loft? A Chartered Building Co I was employed by ALWAYS billed the insurer's for pre-works electrical testing and provided a report.
Bogus insurance claims are against the law! Considering drilling through electrical cables to get a "free" rewire does't always work - read the small print of your policy.
For those genuine victims, the priciple of insurance is to make good a loss. A good loss adjustor goes a long way...
  • Do a google searh for the Flood Forum they are an excellent source of information (I was unable to post the link).
Unfortunately the Environment Agency and Floodline are unable to help if your flooding is not caused by a river or the sea.
  • Hi
I thought I'd add links which relate to Scottish flood help too but apparently as a new user I can't!
So put Scottish Flood Forum (advice & help to individuals who have been flooded) and Scottish Environment Protection Agency (flood warnings & flood risk advice) in a search engine and that should help.
    cheers

  • Please note
that Andrea's link in the original post to the CAB flood help, is now not working and can be found here
