A question about : Flights to Belize Help

When using numerous flight finding sites trying to find flights to Belize next Christmas they all seem to come up with flights that say Heathrow to Belize takes 24 hours but the return trip takes 13 and a half hours. It appears that the extra 11 hours on the outward flight is used up with an overnight wait in the USA. Anyone know of a way to avoid this.

Thanks

  • Having done this a few times my advice would be to take Thomas Cook flight direct from Manchester to Cancun then get local Tropic Air flight down to Belize.

The flights are scheduled to depart after the mid afternoon arrivals from Europe and the flight itself down the coast is pretty stunning.
TC prices are about Ј300 out in December and about Ј400 back in January 2016.
Another option is to get on bus to Belize from Cancun via Chetumal. Bus journey is not really all that long and certainly better buses and roads then there were back in 1989 when I first did the trip. If you are heading out to San Pedro you could even get the ferry from Chetumal.
  • Problem being that most flights seem to leave the USA for Belize early in the morning. This is before any of the transatlantics from Europe have arrived (tends to be lunchtime onwards). So you need to wait for the next days flight.
A quick search showed a couple of options routing via South America around 17 hours, however they were very expensive compared to the USA option. There was even an itinerary going via Cancun. It was ticketed as a Condor (Germany) flight LGW-CUN with a connection via a local airline Cancun-Belize. In effect its a Thomas Cook Airlines flight down to Cancun.
The USA route will be by far the cheapest and offer the most flexible options. I agree with Callum, book a hotel and spend a night in a US city. Or extend the layover, it probably won't cost you much more (if anything).
  • Looks like Gatwick to Cancun on 7th Dec is Ј270 and return on 14th Jan is Ј243. Tropic flights are quite expensive at $256 but as I mentioned flying low along the coast is a pretty awesome trip.
I'm tempted to book it myself!
