A question about : Flight changed in advance but not even an apology from Alitalia

Hi,

Nothing earth shattering I just wanted to see other people views on this scenario:

I'm going away mid February and have just got a call from Alitalia informing me one of the flights I booked has been cancelled and they havebooked us onto a later connecting flight. Didn't even offer an apology!

This isn't a huge inconvenience, an extra 2 hours sitting around an airportand having to change some personal arrangements of friends collecting fromairport.

However is it totally normal and acceptable that airlines can just change yourflights without some much as an apology and seem very surprised when yousuggest they might want to offer you a discount back on this flight or perhapsa discount on a future flight you book with them within the next year? If that happened the other way round and I suddenly decided to change flights I'm sure they would charge me for the privilege.

Best answers:

  • It's in the T & C's that they can change the flights at will as long as it's more than 14 days before the flight is due.
  • As airlines sell flights a year out and constantly review their schedules it is inevitable that sometime there will be changes.
I have had by BA flights from Faro in July changed 3 times so far for as they have changed their schedules. I have had to change arrival airports and needed to book an extra nights accommodation (connections from Faro to Edinburgh now only work at weekends)
I got my flights changed without issue or cost and the extra night is not a big deal
