A question about : Fee for sending dollars to USA??
Hi all
I am executor to my father's estate. One of my brothers, due a 1/3 share of the estate, lives in the US (and has dual US / British citizenship).
This week I sent a test payment of Ј50 to ensure that I had his account details entered correctly. The sending agent sent $76. My brother's bank received $56.
I cannot get to the bottom of the missing $20. My agent thinks it is a Federal Transfer Fee, and we are all hopeful that it is just a fixed $20 not a %age - but I can find nothing on the web about this.
Can anyone clarify for me please?
Best answers:
- It's also possible it was charged by the receiving bank
Could be a fixed fee or a percentage with a minimum fee. Unlikely to be just a percentage.
Sorry - that's probably not much help but it does widen the possibilities - Have you tried one of the sites that offer cheaper transfer like currencyfair? They appear to tell you how much actually arrives.
